Nathan Johnson smiled haughtily when he saw the news flash across his phone screen. Nathan was a drop dead handsome man with startling blue eyes and dark brownish hair. He was a billionaire and ranked number three out of the richest men in the world.
Nathans riches were spread across different countries around the world. He was known by many titles, the money god, the king of riches and the most recent one, King of the game.
Nathan was ruthless when it came to chasing what he wanted. His staff knew him so well that no one dared challenge him.
He dealt on different merchandise ranging from textile to automobile creation to perfumes. He dealt on basically anything that brought him money and revenue. Nathan was smart and he knew just where to put his money. He studied the stocks and knew just where to invest his money. He controlled various businesses, he was known in major parts of the world.
Despite all these, Nathan was very arrogant. He was proud and had no idea on how to talk to people. Though his staff enjoyed several remunerations from him but all the same, he treated them like thrash.
The only person whom he seemed to talk to with any semblance of respect was his best friend and advisor, Matt. Matt was the only person who wasnt scared of telling him the truth no matter how it was. They had basically grown up together and they knew all of each others secrets.
‘I have to travel to New York tomorrow." Nathan said.
Matt looked up from the file he was reading. The duo were currently in Monaco on a business trip. They had secured the deal and were just whiling away time before they had to travel back to their base in New York.
‘Really? Whats the urgency? Matt asked.
His salt and pepper hair blew slowly in the cool evening wind. New York would be in the early hours of the following day while Monaco was still in the evening.
‘I just remembered theres a file I was supposed to sign but I havent gotten to it yet." Nathan said.
He gripped his hair tightly and Matt knew that he was anxious. That was exactly the way he behaved whenever he was anxious. It was something he had seen him do several times.
‘Why is this file so important that it warrants you to run back home, Matt said.
Nathan remained silent for several minutes, tapping his hand lightly on the edge of the chair. He had a disturbed look on his face and Matt knew that there was more to everything he just said. There was something Nathan wasnt telling him and deep down, he vowed to find out what it was.
‘Nathan, what are you hiding? Matt asked.
‘Fine, its the final document that cuts my relationship off with Rita." he said.
Matt chuckled, placing the file he was reading on a nearby table. He knew all about Nathan and Ritas relationship and he was quite glad that it was finally coming to an end. She was an opportunist and she never failed to demand for one thing or the other from Nathan just because she knew he was rich.
‘You really should stop giving this girl money, youre only encouraging her." Matt said.
‘Thats the thing man, I no longer give her money and Im sure thats the reason why shes so bent on me signing those documents so she can leave with the money I agreed to pay her." Nathan said.
He downed his martini in one gulp, refilling his glass before downing it a second time. Matt sipped his more slowly, watching Nathan with a hooded expression.
‘You should calm down, this wouldnt take you anywhere." Matt said.
‘I know I should but do you realize that this girl nearly ruined my life? Now, imagine if I didnt have the connection and money to keep this under wraps, my name would have been ruined." Nathan said.
‘I agree. Rape accusations are really not nice, the media would feast on them like angry dogs. Nevertheless, we have to apply wisdom to whatever were doing. We shouldnt see a burning furnace and jump into it." Matt said.
‘So what do you suggest we do since youre my wise advisor." Nathan snapped.
Matt knew it was without heat. He had seen Nathan behave like this numerous times, it was nothing special. He sipped his drink slowly as his brain worked on the next line of action. If Nathan signed those documents, it would not only make Rita three times richer but she would also be influential.
‘The mistake we made from the beginning was agreeing to pay her that amount. Even a saint wouldnt think twice before accepting that money." Matt said.
‘Are we really going to talk about my mistakes or the way forward? Nathan sighed.
‘Im only pointing it out in case youre so stupid to do something like that again." Matt said.
‘You know this will be the last time. Im never dating a club girl again." Nathan laughed.
Despite the situation they were in, Matt joined in laughing. Nathan was stupid to have ever thought that a club girl like Rita could love him whole heartedly. Now, he had learnt his lesson and it was a bitter one at that.
‘So I think we should pay her off and forget about her. Thats the only way I know you could get peace." Matt said.
‘I agree. Shes nothing but a gold digger. I wish I could just deal with her but like the saint you are, you refused." Nathan said.
‘Sometimes, I really dont know why Im your friend. You need to use your brains at times Nate." Matt snapped.
Nathan smiled, downing the third glass of martini. Matt resumed reading the files, paying no attention to him.
‘You need to go easy on the drink." said.
‘You know, sometimes I just wish I could find a girl who truly loves me for me and not because of what I have." Nathan said.
‘With the kind of attitude you have, I really dont think theres any girl who would come close to you, much less date you. You have shitty behavior Nathan." Matt said.
Nathan knew it was the truth and somehow, he was glad that Matt told him exactly how he behaved.
‘I believe shes out there, somewhere." Nathan said.
‘Good luck finding her." Matt said.
Nathan believed this and he had a feeling that soon, he would meet her. The only thing he could do now was change his character but he knew that would be really difficult.
It was ingrained in him and he knew it would take a lot of years before he could even get off everything he had been doing.
‘I believe in myself." Nathan said.
‘Thats the first damn thing you should do." Matt said.
Nathan knew then that he couldnt allow girls to cheat him again. He had been really generous with a lot of them ever since but not this time. Despite this, Nathan knew that old habits never die and he was sure of doing this. It was only a matter of time before he relapsed back into his former behavior.
