Amelia Grant was in a daze, trying to move Emily Parker, but she was no match for her in terms of physical strength. All she could do was use all her might to hold back the arm that Emily was raising high. She pleaded with her, hoping to bring her back to her senses, "Miss Emily, if you keep hitting her, it will be a matter of life and death. Lets talk it out..."
Emily was not listening at all, and with a swing of her hand, she threw Amelia off. Amelia felt her body go airborne for a moment, and when she came down, the back of her head hit something sharp. The pain was blinding, and she lay on the ground, too dizzy to even get up.
After what seemed like a long while, she felt people hastily lifting her up. When Amelia came to in the hospital bed, she wanted to turn her neck to see clearly, but the pain made her let out a soft "ah." She reached up to touch her head and found it wrapped in thick bandages.
In front of her eyes was Ethan Scotts stern face, devoid of any warmth. Seeing that she was awake, he moved his lips slightly, "Congratulations, youve made a name for yourself now."
Amelia made a face, "Why did you cut my hair?" She was a sucker for long hair and had been growing her locks for ages.
Ethan looked at her with a mix of anger and disappointment, as if he wanted to wring some sense into her. "If you have no brains, whats the use of having hair?"
Amelia pouted, "But I have the right to be beautiful even if Im not smart."
Jason Lee, who was present, couldnt help but smirk, coming over to check on Amelia. "Well, if youre awake and complaining, it means youre not too badly off."
Amelia asked him, "Is my injury serious?"
Jason glanced at her, his expression complex as he looked between Ethan and Amelia. He sighed, "If theres anything you want to say or anything you want to confess, now would be the time."
Amelias heart skipped a beat. Was her injury that severe? She looked at Jason skeptically, "Jason, youre not lying to me, are you?"
Jason let out a heavy sigh and stepped back, leaving Ethans stern face in her line of sight again.
Amelia felt a lump in her throat. She had planned to grow old with Ethan, never expecting their separation to come so abruptly. She had made so many efforts to stay by his side, taking great care of her body and life, fearing that a sudden disaster would keep her from being with him until the end.
"Now that Im awake, how do you feel?" Ethan asked, his voice soft.
"A bit headache," Amelia replied.
Ethan nodded, "Then get some sleep."
Amelia obediently closed her eyes and quickly fell asleep.
Isabella Wilson received the news about Amelias hospitalization soon after. With her usual fiery personality, she burst into the room, exclaiming, "Amelia, are you alright? I heard you injured your brain. Let me see... Why didnt you tell me about such a big deal...?"
She rattled on incessantly, not giving Amelia a chance to interject.
Once she was done examining Amelia, Isabella finally paused, "Its just a minor concussion, right? Are you sure it wont cause any after-effects?"
Amelia reassured her with a nod, "The doctor is right here, you can ask him yourself."
Isabella turned around and noticed Jason for the first time, looking quite shocked. She had rushed in so quickly that she hadnt noticed the doctor in a white coat in the room.
Seeing him, she was somewhat taken aback. How to describe it? Jason was a classically handsome man, with an upright stature of six feet, and his white coat concealed any beastly nature, making him look cultured and elegant.
Isabella had watched countless medical dramas and had a crush on the dashing male doctors in white coats. So when she saw Jason, she was nearly drooling.
Once Jason left, Isabella fanned herself, gushing to Amelia, "Hes so handsome, so righteous-looking."
"Are you talking about Jason?" Amelia asked, making sure she was referring to Jason. She sniffed dismissively, "He just seems honest."
Isabella questioned, "What do you mean?"
"It means you should stay away from him," Amelia said bluntly.
Isabella humphed, "I wont listen to you." She was too busy fantasizing, "Central Medical is like a stream of beauties."
There used to be Ethan, and now theres Jason.
Amelia couldnt bear to look at her, "Are you here to see me or to see the beauties?"
Isabella "ah"-ed, "Of course, Im here to see you. Now that I know youre fine, I can appreciate the scenery." She leaned in and whispered, "Has Isabella come to see you?"
Amelia shook her head, "No, I havent seen her since I got injured."
Isabella sighed, "She shouldnt act this way. After all, you got hurt because of her."
"I guess shes too embarrassed to come," Amelia speculated.
Isabella thought for a moment, "Thats true. I called her, and her phone was off. When I went to her apartment, no one answered the door. I wonder where she could have gone."
Amelia pondered, "Maybe she went back to her hometown?"
Isabella shook her head, "Impossible. You said her face was all bruised; how could she go home like that? What would she say to her parents if they asked?"
Amelia considered this and agreed, "Youre right. I cant imagine where she could be then."
Isabella handed her a peeled apple, "Dont worry, Ill go check on her later."
"That would be good," Amelia took a bite of the apple, mumbling indistinctly, "By the way, Abigail Clark also called me, she saw my status update about being hospitalized and asked what happened, but I didnt tell her."
"Such things wont stay secret for long, but for now, its better not to tell her until she finishes her civil service exam."
"Thats what I thought."
