Beccas POV
I groaned as I heard the clanging of pots and pans against each other from my neighbors room.
I swear these walls are too thin for my liking.
I picked up my phone to check the time and rolled my eyes when I saw that it was just 7 am. I mean, why would anybody be making so much noise at this time? On a freaking Saturday! I wouldve preferred to keep sleeping but all the sleep had drained from my system. I walked into my bathroom to clean my teeth and take a bath. After my bath, I went back into my room to look for an outfit. I started looking through my closet when my eyes spotted a particular dark blue dress I hadnt worn in a long time. I tried it on and surprisingly it still fit me. I put my hair into a ponytail and then wore my black heel boots.
I stepped out of my apartment building and went to the coffee shop on the next street while I waited for my boyfriend. I noticed a group of men in a secluded corner of the shop and amid those men, one of them caught my attention. As I was staring at him, he looked up at me and smirked. I blushed while looking away. I fixed my eyes back on my phone screen and leaned back on the chair but I could still feel someones eyes on me. I decided to ignore it and for a while, I did but at some point I looked up and caught his eyes again.
At that moment my phone chimed signalling that I had a message. I opened it to see that Jake, my boyfriend sent me a message.
Jake: Sorry babe, I wont be able to make it. Im feeling a little sick.
Me: Oh! Its okay. Get well soon!
I sighed and called the waiter to ask for my bill. After paying, I stepped out of the coffee shop and made to call my best friend but stopped when an idea came to mind. I got a taxi and went to my boyfriends house to surprise him. On my way I purchased some groceries for him.
Stepping out of the taxi, I observed that there was a pair of female shoes on his doorstep. I brushed it off thinking it was for one of his neighbours. I pushed open his door since it wasnt locked.
I walked to his room and pushed the door open only to find my best friend and my boyfriend literally eating each others mouth. I gasped and covered my mouth as the feeling of hot tears pricking my eyes overcame me.
Jake and Brenda looked over to my direction and their eyes widened. Brenda quickly covered herself up with the bedsheets while Jake stood up and walked towards me slowly. He tried touching me but I pushed him away and stepped backwards. Brenda was now sitting comfortably on the bed eyeing Jake and I.
"So this was your so called illness ey?" I asked.
"Before you say anything more, i promise, its not what it looks like. This was a mistake. I promise." Jake tried explaining
Before I could say anything, Brenda spoke up, "Oh please babe, why are you lying to her? Tell her the truth or I will."
"Just shut up!" Jake and I shouted in unison.
"You, you bastard!" I poked his chest, " you had the nerve to lie to me. I gave you everything. I left everything behind for you.!" I screamed. "After everything, you couldnt even find a better person to cheat on me with? You went for this fake bimbo?" I said whilst smiling ruefully and pointing at Brenda.
"What did you-" Brenda began
"Shut up witch! I trusted you! I called you my best friend. I-I" I broke down. Brenda rolled her eyes and walked towards me with a venomous look on her face.
"All my life youve taken away all the things I wanted. You took away everything. You stole it from me. I dont even know what he saw in you! Youre not even that appealing. Ive wanted to exact revenge on you for so long. Ive stayed by your side while you took all the glory and love while I was just a shadow to you! You never even appreciated me for anything I did and now youre here trying to guilt trip me?" Brenda defended unapologetically.
All this while Jake had remained quiet but when Brenda put his arm around her, he looked at me with a cold glare, "Youve always been a spoiled brat. A good for nothing brat. I never liked you. I just used you. Right from the beginning of this relationship Ive been with Brenda." He let out.
Id had enough. I couldnt take it any longer nor could I hold back the tears. I picked up my bag and ran out of the apartment. In the process of me running out, I bumped into a hard chest and without looking up, I apologized and continued running.
After running for God knows how long, I reached my destination and picked up my phone to make a call. I dialled the first number that came to mind. It rang a couple of times before the person picked up, "Hey Liz." I sniffed
"Becks? Whats wrong?" My sister asked.
"I just need someone to talk to. Are you free? Should I come over?" I asked her in a rushed tone.
"Oh dear, its going to be fine okay? Tell me where you are, Ill come pick you up instead." She said.
"Im at Reeces ice cream shop." I told her my whereabouts.
Liz was my elder sister. Twin actually, she was older than me by a minute or two. She was like a role model to me. Id always wished to be like her which was why most at times I always tried to act like her. Between the both of us she was the most rational and she wasnt as impulsive as I was. Within minutes, Liz had already arrived at the ice cream shop and I narrated all that happened to her. She sat closer to me and hugged me tight.
After the death of my mother, Liz was the one who filled in the void in me. She was my for lifer.
"Hey, lets stop this pity party and find a way to cheer you up." She said wiping the tears from my face and hers.
"At this point all I want to do is Netflix and chill." I said chuckling.
"Nope!" She disapproved. "Be ready by 7pm tonight, were gonna get wild." She said.
"Uh where is my sister and what have you done to her?" I said in bewilderment. Liz only laughed and then we bought 3 tubs of ice cream before she dropped me off at home.

At 7pm on the dot Liz had already arrived at my house and was dragging me out of the house. I was wearing a blood red dress that stopped mid thigh. It was a body con dress and it coincided perfectly with my shoes and makeup. Liz was wearing a black crop top with a blue jean skirt and white jacket. She tied her hair in a half up, half down style while I just curled mine.
We reached the club and there I met a few of Lizs friends. We went to the bar and ordered a couple of drinks. I chugged down more than I was meant to. As much as I hated to admit it, I was a lightweight.
"Hey, Becca, that hot dude over there has been eyeing you for a while now." Kyla, one of Lizs friend said wiggling her eyebrows. I giggled and pulled her to the dance floor. Woman by Doja cat was playing and I started dancing to it. After a while, I felt a presence behind me and I looked back to see the handsome stranger that was eyeing me a while back. He looked a bit familiar but my memory was hazy so I couldnt remember him clearly.
He put his hands on my waist and we danced to the music and before I knew what was happening, i found myself in a bedroom with the stranger.
I didnt realise the implications of that one night at the time but it was soon to come to haunt me.
