In her right hand was the medication she was certain Haines had left on the dining table, next to the bouquet of flowers the organisers of the award ceremony had sent him.
She knew all too well how important it was for him, to never miss his medication no matter the situation. Which was why even when the taxi she took had left and the one she called was running late, she took off her heels and dashed into the night.
He was a talented man, and everything she endured was for a greater cause, she chanted in her heart, as she dashed past the park next to their Villa.
From behind, her ears picked up on the sound of a speeding motorbike charging straight for her. In need of a rest, she stopped and instinctively looked over her shoulder. Only to gaze at two bright headlights, with no intention of stopping!
*Crash*
The collision was clean, and the rider was swift enough to flee the scene without stopping his engine.
"Help me..." The frightened woman whimpered, overwhelmed by the shock of being hit, rather than the pain itself.
From a distance, she heard the rhthymic sound of heels approaching her almost flaccid body. Her grip on the medicine tightened, as her consciousness slowly left her.
"Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!" The unclear voice of the woman whose shadow wad towering over her, under the street lampost.
All she managed to remember, was that this lady was ruthless enough to steal the medication in her hand and make off without even calling for help.
"St...stop." she whispered, as the last thing her eyes saw was a long black coat and silver stilettos, walking away from her semi consciousness self.
Standing in front of her wasnt the woman from her dream, but instead, a doctor and two nurses, who all bore equal expressions on their faces.
A face of pity.
"Miss, weve conducted a number of tests on you, and come to a disheartening diagnosis." The middle aged doctor announced, wearing a grim look on his face.
Her hands found their way to her stomach, acting entirely out of their own free will.
"As you might have guessed, due to the severity of your fall and the shock you received, Im sorry to inform you that you have a miscarriage."
The news didnt register in the young womans mind at first, she almost didnt hear what he said due to how anxious she was feeling. It took a minute for the message to seep in fully.
"What?" A tear fell from her eye as the word barely left her quivering lips.
"If we had known you were pregnant when you were brought in, then we might have conducted more tests on you. As a doctor, I apologize for negligence." He spoke, avoiding eye contact with the bereaved mother.
"Miscarriage? I cant miscarriage! The baby was fine, how dare you tell me Ive lost my child?!" Her fright suddenly shifted into a brief surge of pure rage.
The medical staff remained silent and kept their heads lowered, the situation was just too pitiful.
"Why arent you saying anything? Dont just stand there and pity me! I dont want it!" Her loud cry sent chills down the spine of the doctor, the trigger he needed to snap back into reality.
"Lets tranquilize her." He instructed the nurses, "inform the contact you mentioned earlier to come to the hospital."
Both nurses heeded to his order and immediately set to work, struggling against the woman who had just lost her child between last night and the next morning.
A pitiful scenario.
*************
Bouquets of flowers took up all the space on the large dining room table, coupled with chocolates and gift baskets. The helps had been sorting out the gifts sent to the Villa all morning, only to have more delivered the next hour.
Due to how busy the Villa, no one had noticed that Renée hadnt returned with their employer Mr Haines. They all believed she was up in their bedroom, going about her normal routine.
All but one person hadnt taken notice of her absence.
The dark skinned assistant paced to and fro in a panicked manner, in front of the couples bedroom door. All through the night she had been up waiting for any news from the hospital about Mrs Currans condition.
"This is going to be a problem, if anything happens to the child shes carrying..." Her worried monologue was cut short by a ding on her phone.
She hurriedly stared into her phone, with high hopes that it was indeed the hospital, with good reports.
*Boss: Come in*
The text clearly read, as though he knew she was right in front of his room, contemplating what to say to him.
Nonetheless, she pulled herself together and walked into his bedroom, making sure to leave the door half open.
"Youve been pacing around for so long its starting to give me a headache." Mr Haines growled at her the moment she stepped inside. His focus was fixed on the photos from last night, which were recently uploaded all over social media.
He had just stepped out of the bath and was still loosely dressed in nothing but silk, dark blue robes.
"My apologies sir, I didnt know if you were awake or not." She courteously replied, keeping her gaze trained on last nights award which was placed next to the one from the previous year.
"The agency called to congratulate you on your win." The woman said, avoiding all topics about last night.
He sat on his favorite grey sofa in his room, then casually tossed one leg over the other without breaking his concentration from the photos he stated at.
"Violet." He beckoned in a frigid tone, raising his ferocious blue eyes to meet her timid gaze.
"Yes sir." Was the reply, her fingers were already shaking from fear of getting questioned by him.
"Why in the bloody hell, is the woman standing next to me not my wife?!" He calmly inquired, as though he were asking about the weather.
The question was so direct that she knew there was no use beating around the bush with him.
"Mrs Curran wasnt available at the time, so we had to..." Her explanation was cut off by her boss who angrily tossed the tablet in his hand at the nearest wall. Utterly shattering its screen with no remorse whatsoever.
Violet held both sides of her ears in stun, the woman could feel her heart almost leap out of her chest. Her boss was prickly by nature, but he seldom got furious enough to scare her out of her wits.
"What sort of bullshit crap is this?!" He cursed, running his agitated fingers through his hair.
"Its only a matter of time till someone notices that woman in the photo is an imposter! And whose career do you think will have the negative impact?!" He angrily rose to his feet and rested both hands on his slim waist.
"I should have been more alert and followed up on Mrs Currans whereabouts. My apologies." Violet said, pleading for her job.
"Where the hell is my wife and who is the bloody woman in the photo?!" Haines demanded his loud voice, raised the tension in the room.
Just as Violet was set to reply, the same blonde woman from last night walked into his bedroom and stood in front of Violet.
"It was me Haines, I was the one who stepped in last minute to impersonate your missing wife." She proudly told him, not mincing words.
"JessicaAmy?" He retorted, calling the full version of her name, just as he always did. His confused brows firmly pressed against each other, as his eyes drank in the features of the uninvited woman in his room.
"Leave us." Jessica ordered without sparing a glance at Violet, who was still shaken up by her bosss temper.
She looked at her boss was consent, which he granted by waving his hand, signalling her to give them the room. The woman strictly complied and showed herself out, leaving the door half open after her.
"Whats all this bull about impersonating my wife?" He asked, cutting straight to the chase.
"Youre too straightforward Haines." She told him, helping herself to a lollipop on his nightstand.
"I believe youre too ignorant to understand the gravity of the matter, both yours and my career are on the line. Before this evening, the tabloids will be screaming of an gossip about affair between us." He lectured, taming his anger by clenching his fingers into a fist.
"Are you certain thats the only news to make headlines?" A devilish grin planted itself on her face, as she stuck the lollipop into her mouth.
"If you have something to say then say it." He sternly told her, clearly not amused by how suspenseful she was being.
"I wonder which the public will chew off more, a rumour about an affair between us two, or the news about your wife missing her husbands award ceremony to get an abortion." She said, placing stress on the word abortion.
The one word everyone knew Haines Curran hated the most.
