A few days later, Biancas husband, Jacks autopsy results were available.
Since the court ordered the examination, the ME sent the results directly to the court.
Jessie went to get the results. By the time she got there, reporters were waiting at the door. They crowded round her when they spotted her. Jessie was curious about how the reporters got the news.
Gabriel met the same situation as her. He was also here for the autopsy results.
"Mr. Gabriel, didnt you use to work for the L&D Law Firm? You and Ms. Jessie were partners back in the days. Now the two of you are going to become opponents. How do you feel that way?"
"Will you show mercy for old times sake?"
Gabriel stood in front of the camera and said professionally and calmly, "We are just coworkers. Thats all."
The word coworker made Jessie laugh bitterly.
"He sure knows how to differentiate himself from out relationship."
No surprise. To him, they were just coworkers with benefits. How could she be compared with his first girlfriend.
Gabriel ignored the reporters other questions. He walked into the courthouse, leaving Jessie alone to those reporters.
The reporters flocked around Jessie like jackals.
"Ms. Jessie, last time you represented the plaintiff and won against the Sky Corporation. This time, you will face Sky Corporation again in the court. Do you have confidence to win again?"
"How do you feel about Mr. Gabriel representing the Sky Corporation. Do you know why he quit his job at the L&D Law Firm?"
"Both Mr. Gabriel and I are professionals. We all will do out jobs."
Jessie tried to leave but she couldnt jostle her way through the crowd. The chaos did stop until a man in a suit came over to Jessie.
"Ms. Jessie, we need you now. The judge requires both lawyers to be present."
"It all thanks to you. Otherwise, I would still be trapped there."
Jessie finally heaved a sign of relief after she got into the courthouse.
The man who rescued Jessie was Lionel, the ME in charge of Jacks autopsy. He was here to send some supplementary materials.
Knowing whats going on between Gabriel and Jessie, as their friends, Lionel couldnt help but remind Jessie.
"Jess, its better you let go of this case."
Some person passed by, and Lionel immediately silenced. He continued after he was sure that nobody could overhear what they were saying.
"This case is not as simple as you thought. When you see the files, youll know what Im saying. It involved a lot of people. You must be careful."
Jessie wanted to ask more from Lionel but she saw Gabriel coming out. Gabriel clearly noticed her but he just walked past her as if she was invisible.
His coldness still hurt Jessie.
"I know what happened between you two. I am on your side. The way Gabriel treats you is too outrageous. He broke up with you without even giving you an explanation."
"He told me why. He said it was for that woman. Maybe I am the fool who refused to see his true face."
Jessies response made Lionel confused.
"Is there a misunderstanding? Dont you think Amanda looks a little like you? He doesnt lack money nor does he covet power."
"You say what? Amanda looks like me?"
Jessie was shocked at what Lionel said. She never paid attention to it.
"Yeah! You two really look alike. The mouth, the eyes. But you are prettier! Thats for sure."
Jessie had a bad feeling. After getting the materials she needed, Jessie went back to the law firm.
A blue sports car was parked at the door. Beside the car stood Amanda. Seeing Jessie coming, she waved at her.
"Still remember me? Ms. Jessie?
I want to buy you a drink. Do you have a minute?"
"I am busy."
Jessie didnt want to speak to this woman at all.
"Its about Gabriel. Now will you want to have that drink?"
