"Cancer?"
Sherry could not believe what she heard, and her mind once again went blank: "Can it be cured?"
Feeling the trembling fluster in her voice, the doctor became much more cautious when organizing his words: "An Immediate hysterectomy has a30%chance of preventing the spread of cancer cells. I can arrange the surgery as long as you have your family signed the informed consent."
Family…
Sherry subconsciously clenched her fists, and her heart was filled with despair.
Due to the slump of her family business, her parents committed suicide not long after her marriage.
Therefore, the only family she had was Mayer…
As he became her ex-husband, how was she supposed to find her family?
"So", Sherry looked at the doctor and asked: "How long do I have if I dont take the surgery?"
"Six months maximum", the doctor frowned and sighed: "On the premise that the cancer cells dont spread."
The doctor still said something, but Sherry was in no mood to listen to him.
Like the zombies in Walking Dead, she stumbled out of the hospital.
It was raining heavily outside, making the whole city as damp as her mood.
Sherry stopped her pace and looked up into the sky, while her tears silently leaped from her eyes and merged into the rain.
She kept wondering whether God exists and why he would be so cruel to deprive her of everything in one day, leaving her nobody to love, no place to go, and no time to live.
Too feeble to rent a house, Sherry had to accommodate herself in a hotel near the hospital.
When lying on the bed, she suddenly recalled that her divorce with Mayer was still in process which meant he was still her family in the legal meaning and qualified to sign the consent.
They were couples after all. In light of this fact, Mayer should not mind doing her such a trivial favor.
With such a thought, Sherry dialed Mayer.
"Excuse me."
A woman picked up the call and asked: "Mayer does not save your number. So could you please tell me whos there?"
Sherry hung up with a hint of embarrassing panic.
She painfully covered her tingling heart, not expecting Mayer to be so heartless.
He even was not willing to leave a place for her phone number in his address book!
Like an ostrich, Sherry hid her head under the quilt as if this could slightly relieve the pain all over her body.
However, she still could not help thinking of that womans voice and the SMS last night.
Mayer…can you just show me some mercy?
In the silent sleepless night, Sherrys tears soaked the whole pillow.
Though she had lost her sleep for two consecutive nights, life still went on.
After taking some pills, Sherry tidied herself up and went to the company, only to see her desk cleared up.
She went to the HR department and asked for an explanation, while the director of HR just gave her a marching order.
"Im sorry", the director explained to her with compassion: "But thats Mr. Goodwins order."
"I see."
Sherry directly turned to Mayers office.
She has always been diligent at work and never made any mistakes.
Even if he was the CEO of the company, he could not fire her for no reason!
Mayers office was at the end of the corridor, and its shut glass door was guarded by Mayers secretary.
The secretary tried to stop Sherry, but Sherrys anger successfully helped her overwhelm the poor guy.
Sherry pushed the door open and strode into the office, only to see Mayer affectionately flirting with a woman.
Hearing the noise, the woman turned over with fluster.
When seeing her face, Sherry once again felt a tingle in her heart.
She knew it was her!
Sylvia Black——Mayers so-called childhood sweetheart.
Compared to Sheras violent reaction to the sudden disturbance, Mayer was much calmer.
He just stood there and stared at Sherry, with his iconic coldness.
"Why do you fire me?"
Sherry went straight to the point.
"What you are doing is the best reason!" answered Mayer with indifference.
"Seriously?"
Sherry was amused by the ridiculous reason: "For disturbing your mating?"
"Dont go too far!"
Mayer raised his tone and the warning in his voice was more than evident.
"Honey, just chill."
Sylvia pacified Mayers anger and looked at Sherry: "Now that she loses her job because of my presence, leave this to us. Pay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and God what belongs to God."
With this, she stepped out of the office and waited for Sherry.
In Mayers blind spot, she grinned a provocative smile at Sherry.
Sherry took a deep breath to calm down, then followed her pace.
"Long time no see, Sherry", Sylvia greeted her with hypocritical politeness.
"Well, thats quite a long time", Sherry scanned the woman up and down, smiling sarcastically: "Shall I call you Shera or Sylvia? My…dear sister?"
