"Jack, do you know what youre doing?" Emily Thompson exerted all her strength to hold back the man in a suit in front of her.
"Do you think you have any other choice but to marry me?" Jack paused for a moment, but still pulled Emilys hand towards the County Clerks Office without turning his head.
Emily stopped struggling. Yes, who was she, Emily Thompson? Just a substitute, a replacement. She loved him, and since loving him meant being with him, she should be satisfied. What qualifications did she have to refuse?
"Hurry up and fill it out. After so many years, your habit of dawdling is still the same," Jacks sarcastic words echoed harshly in the hall filled with a sweet atmosphere.
Emily, who was startled by the sudden scolding, accidentally poked a hole in the marriage registration form. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she bit her lips, having to ask the staff for help, "Sorry, can I have another form?"
Upon hearing this, Jack grabbed the womans body and said, "Emily Thompson, are you doing this on purpose?"
His eyes were already angry. Emily bit her lips desperately, not letting the tears in her eyes fall.
"I didnt, I just, you just, I didnt mean to."
"Hurry up and write. I dont have time to waste here with you."
Emily stared at the paper in front of her, wiped away the tears from her face, took the pen, and still filled it out carefully.
"Come on, new people look at the camera. The groom can smile a little, dont be so serious on such a happy day," the photographer looked puzzled at the man with a straight face and the uneasy woman in the lens, wondering if they were here to register for marriage.
A moment later, the staff handed the marriage certificate to Jack and Emily. Jack didnt reach for it, and seeing this, Emily reached out to take it and thanked them.
In the scrutiny of everyones eyes, holding the two red books, she followed Jack, who was walking quickly, out of the County Clerks Office.
Suddenly, Jack, who was walking in front, stopped, and Emily, because of her trot, couldnt "brake" in time and bumped into his back with a muffled sound.
Jack turned his head, looked down at the woman in front of him, and said with a fierce look in his eyes:
"You go home by yourself later. Today, Im going to see Zoe, who is still lying in the hospital because of you."
He took out a key from his pocket, threw it to the stunned Emily, turned and went down the steps, and suddenly stopped, turned around, and said to the motionless Emily: "Dont let me see you looking innocent and weak again. Dont think you can whitewash yourself like this."
Emily stood there, not daring to move, her eyes tightly closed, letting the tears flow freely.
Seeing Emily like this, Jack crossed from the steps to her, grabbed her shoulders, and said through gritted teeth: "If it wasnt for you causing Zoe to be hit and become a vegetative person, and causing her to still lie in the hospital bed, the one who came here with me today wouldnt be you. I wish it was you who became a vegetative person, you! Do you know that?"
He said, pinching Emilys shoulders more and more forcefully, as if he could crush the woman in front of him with just a little more effort.
Emily, who was let go, fell to the ground because of the loss of balance, and the tears that had been rolling in her eyes still fell, was this retribution?
Because of her greedy desire for his love, loving him meant suffering this kind of torture, being humiliated by him like this?
After a long time, the phone in her pocket suddenly rang: "Emily Thompson, long time no see."
The familiar female voice on the other end of the phone made Emily start to tremble slightly...
