Connie Chen had barely adjusted to the newfound clarity of her vision after three years of blindness when Sean Yin dragged her, unceremoniously, to the intensive care unit and forced her to the ground.

"Ah鈥攑ain!" she cried out as her knees hit the unforgiving floor, tears welling up in her eyes.

Sean, however, only sneered. "Does this hurt? What about Rose, who had her eyes gouged out for you?"

Connies gaze followed his finger, and her face drained of color at the sight of a woman lying on a hospital bed, her eyes bandaged with blood seeping through.

Was that... Rose Jiang?

Her shock quickly turned to panic as Seans hand closed around her neck, his icy gaze chilling her to the bone.

"How... could..." she choked out, struggling for breath.

Three years prior, Connie and Rose had been kidnapped, and Sean had come to their rescue. In the chaos, Connie had taken a splash of acid meant for Sean, while Rose had fallen from a height and become a vegetative state...

Connie had lost her sight, and as the poison spread through her eyes, it threatened her life. Fortunately, her brother, a brilliant surgeon, had found a matching eye after three years of searching.

Everyone in Springfield knew that Rose was the apple of Seans eye, and as much as Connie loved Sean, he loved Rose. So how could she possibly harm Rose?

Connie felt her face flush, then turn blue as she instinctively tried to pry his fingers off, but they were unyielding. In a moment, Sean released her with a cold, letting her collapse to the floor.

This vile woman, he couldnt let her die so easily!

"Cough... cough..." A violent cough racked Connies chest, as if her internal organs were about to be expelled.

After a moment to recover, she crawled forward and clutched at Seans pant leg, her voice hoarse. "Its not like that, there must be some misunderstanding, my brother wouldnt do this..."

"Not? Then explain how you regained your sight?" Sean loomed over Connie, his eyes filled with disgust and hatred.

Connie was speechless.

Yes, with Roses eyes in her sockets, she was defenseless.

Seeing her锛孲ean shook her off with revulsion, his voice colder than ever. "Connie Chen, youre disgusting."

These words hit Connie like a bullet to the heart, striking her vitals.

The man to whom she had given her heart, the man she had loved for nine years, found her repulsive.

Tears finally broke free, streaming down her face.

All her strength crumbled in that moment, defeated.

Sean remained unmoved, his voice cold. "You will kneel by Roses bedside until she is out of danger!" He then threw a newspaper at Connies face.

The newspaper fell to the ground, and she, ignoring the pain on her face, looked down at the front page, where bold black letters pierced her eyes.
