The next morning, Zoe Cheng woke up with a sore body to see her new husband standing with his back to her in front of the window, holding a half-smoked cigarette.
Zoe frowned and asked, "Ethan, when did you start smoking?"
"Ethan..." the man sighed in a low voice from the window, followed by a cold laugh. Suddenly, he turned around, his gaze as sharp as a knife, staring at Zoe.
Zoe was taken aback; the look in his eyes was terrifyingly unfamiliar.
She couldnt help but pull the blanket tighter around her and called out again, "Ethan."
The man extinguished the cigarette in his hand, walked over with a sneer, and his face was filled with endless mockery.
He clamped down on Zoes chin, looking at her coldly and said, "Ethan Jiang is already dead."
"What are you talking about? Ethan, whats wrong with you?" Zoe winced, looking at the man in disbelief. Was he joking?
"It was with that innocent gaze that you bewitched Ethan, making him die for you, wasnt it?" The man stared at Zoes face for a while, his grip tightening involuntarily.
"You..." Zoe wanted to say something, but the pain only made her frown and kept her from speaking.
There was a knock on the door: "Mr. Jiang, your negotiation with Grand Deals Trade is in half an hour. Would you like to postpone it?"
"No need, Im coming right away." The man abruptly released Zoe, gritting his teeth and saying, "I will take good care of you, just wait."
With that, the man got up and left.
Zoe sat on the bed, feeling cold all over. This man was not Ethan Jiang.
Who was he?
How could this be?
What exactly had happened? Why, when she had married Ethan Jiang, did this man say that Ethan... was dead?
Zoe quickly got up to find her phone when there was another knock on the door.
"Madam, are you awake?"
Zoe, barefoot, rushed to the door, opened it, and looked at the middle-aged woman standing in front of her with her head down. "Where am I? Why am I here?" she asked.
"Madam, whats wrong with you? This is the Jiang residence. Didnt you just get married to Mr. Jiang yesterday?" The woman, who looked to be in her forties or fifties, had a round, pleasant face. Seeing Zoes dazed appearance, she introduced herself, "Madam, Im arranged by Mr. Jiang to serve you. You can call me Ah Yuan. Are you feeling unwell?"
"Mr. Jiang?" Zoe looked at Ah Yuan warily, still not understanding.
"Victor Jiang, dont you know?" Ah Yuan looked at Zoe with a bit of suspicion.
"What about Ethan Jiang?" Zoe felt a pang of panic from the similar names.
She saw Ah Yuans face pale a bit, and what she said next was something Zoe couldnt believe.
Ah Yuan said, "The second young master, Ethan Jiang, passed away three months ago. Didnt you know?"
