The Rejected Wolf

Clare Yates left the hospital with a bitter smile, feeling as if fate had played a cruel joke on her. A late-stage cancer diagnosis was not enough; even the child she had so desperately wanted was diagnosed as malformed during her pregnancy check-up.

She mechanically got out of the car, tore up the pregnancy report, and threw it into the trash before dialingshao hua Shaws number. It took three attempts before the line was finally answered.

Immediately, a cold voice came through the phone: "Mrs. Shaw, what can I do for you?"

"Im pregnant, and the doctor says the child is malformed," Clare said, her eyes hollow, her thoughts hidden from others.

"Mrs. Shaw, weve barely seen each other for a few days, and youve learned to sleep with other men?" The icy voice was like a cold blade, piercing Clares heart and slashing through, causing her unbearable pain.

Before Clare could explain, the call was disconnected.

She had no choice but to suppress her own loss, gently touch her slightly swollen belly, and return to her empty home.

In the dead of night, the door was kicked open, and the strong smell of alcohol jolted Clare awake from her light sleep.

Clares face drained of all color upon hearing this...

She looked at Shao Hua with a pale face and stammered, "Shao Hua, have you ever thought that if the child is born and the heart matching with Maggie Tang is unsuccessful, what then?"

"Hes just a deformed child. If the matching is unsuccessful, let him die peacefully."

Shao Huas cold voice was like a poisoned blade, accurately striking Clares heart.

Twelve years of unrequited love, three years of marriage, Clare had thought she could move this man, naively believing that one day he would understand that he did not love Maggie Tang, but her, Clare Yates.

Now, she finally understood that no matter what she did for Shao Hua, it could not compare to the absence of Maggie Tang.
