After Edward Cullen left, Jane Eyre finally came to her senses. She hastily ate a few mouthfuls of breakfast to get it over with, then walked out of the room with the same awkward gait. Two tall and sturdy men in black suits stood in front of her, "Miss, we will take you home."
The car was the black Bentley that Edward had ridden in last night. Even if Jane didnt know much about cars, she could tell that this vehicle was worth a fortune.
If she were to go to her aunts house in this car, it would definitely cause a sensation.
"Can I go back by myself?" Jane asked.
"No," was the firm and decisive refusal.
Jane was escorted into the car, with two bodyguards sitting on either side to protect her. During the morning rush hour, they managed to reach Janes aunts house without any hindrance.
It was a dilapidated neighborhood awaiting demolition, with all buildings no more than six stories high. The peeling walls resembled an old man with a face full of wrinkles.
The Bentley had to stop at the entrance of the alley; the car couldnt fit inside.
Jane felt relieved; she didnt want the car to go in, as it was already attracting a lot of attention just by being there.
"Ive already arrived at my home. I can go in by myself. Thank you for taking me back; you can go back now," Jane said as she got out of the car, eager to leave.
But the bodyguards were like two walls of flesh, blocking Janes way.
"We have orders from the president to ensure you get home safely, Miss. Please dont make things difficult for us," the bodyguards said.
Edward wasnt just sending her home, was he? Taking her back, taking her back to that place?
Jane couldnt refuse and had no choice but to let the two bodyguards follow her to the entrance of a five-story residential building.
She was worried about how to explain the presence of these two men to her aunt and uncle when a flurry of footsteps came from above. Soon, a woman with disheveled hair and disarrayed clothes ran out barefoot.
The bodyguards instinctively stepped in front of Jane, shouting, "Who are you? What do you want to do?"
Jane was somewhat dazed and struggled to look out from behind the bodyguards. She saw that the madwoman was her own aunt!
"Aunt!" Jane called out, patting the back of the bodyguards, trying to get out and help her aunt, Margaret Hale, who was so frightened that she collapsed onto the ground.
"Aunt, are you okay?" Jane整理d her aunts disheveled hair and saw the swollen palm print on her aunts face, her voice trembling as she asked, "Did that man hit you again?"
Margaret grabbed Janes hand, looked at the two bodyguards behind her, and her body shook like a sieve as she asked fearfully, "Who are these people? Jane, havent you gotten involved with someone you shouldnt have?"
Edwards two bodyguards were indeed a bit intimidating, and Jane turned her head and requested, "Could you please stand a little further away? This is my aunt, she wont hurt me, youre scaring her."
The bodyguards exchanged glances and took a few steps back but remained within a range where they could protect Jane at any time.
Margaret embraced Jane and whispered through her tears, "Jane, Im so sorry. Its me whos对不起you."
"Aunt, dont say that. If it werent for you, I wouldnt be alive today," Jane said.
Thirteen years ago, she was just a junior high school student. Her fathers company was suspected of tax evasion, and he disappeared without a trace. Her mother said she was going to look for him, and she hasnt been back in thirteen years.
Overnight, she went from being the pearl in her parents hands to a pariah that everyone was after.
If it werent for her aunts kindness in taking her in, she didnt know what would have happened.
"Jane, where did you go last night? Nothing happened, did it?" Margaret grabbed Janes hand, worriedly asking.
Fiona had thoughtfully sent a high-collared little dress that covered the marks on Janes neck and collarbone, which Margaret couldnt see for the time being.
Thinking of what happened last night and this morning with the man named Edward Cullen...
Janes face flushed, and she shook her head, saying, "Nothing happened, Aunt, dont worry."
Margaret let out a sigh of relief upon hearing this, "Thats good, thats good. That beast drugged your water, trying to take advantage of you when I wasnt around..."
Drugged?
No wonder she felt so strange last night; it wasnt as simple as being drunk!
Jane had just helped her aunt up when they heard her uncles cursing voice from the building, "Margaret, you bitch, you dare to hit me for that little brat. I work outside to support you, and I still have to support a burden!"
Jane was that burden.
The next second, a man dressed in disarray, reeking of alcohol, and looking decadent and vicissitudinous rushed out of the unit door.
Bill Compton saw Jane, who had been absent all night, and revealed a lewd smile, "Jane Eyre, you still know how to come back!"
Bill staggered towards Jane, but was stopped by the bodyguards.
"What trash dares to block the way of this young master?"
The bodyguards had always only followed Edwards orders and couldnt bear to be insulted by a stranger who clearly wasnt a good person. They easily beat Bill to the ground, where he wailed in pain.
"What should we do with this trash, Miss?" the bodyguards asked Jane, stepping on the struggling Bill.
