At ten in the morning, Scarlett OHara stepped out of the hospital Consultation Room, only to encounter a familiar figure in the hallway that made her heart jolt with anxiety. She ducked out of sight, her nerves on edge as she watched the figure disappear around the corner. Only then did she dare to let out the breath shed been holding and made her way towards the elevator.
"Aunt, long time no see," a deep voice said from behind, and the simple word aunt made her spine straighten and her heart tremble with fear. The gaze from behind felt like icy arrows piercing right through her.
Scarlett forced a smile and turned to face him. "Long time no see," she said, her voice strained.
Rhett Butler looked down at the medication in her hand and asked with a hint of suspicion, "Is this...?"
"Ive got a bit of a cold, just picking up some medicine," Scarlett replied, feeling guilty and lowering her head. It was clearly an ointment for external injuries, and she worried it would be noticed. She quickly hid the medicine behind her back.
A flash of disgust crossed his eyes before a mocking smile curved his lips. "It seems Uncle doesnt know moderation, causing Aunt to catch a cold."
Scarletts face drained of color as she clutched the medicine tightly. "I have other things to do," she said, trying to leave.
As the elevator doors were closing, Rhett squeezed in, making the space suddenly feel suffocating.
Scarlett pressed herself against the elevator wall, nervously watching him approach step by step, cornering her. "What are you nervous about? Are you scared, my aunt..."
Her heart was pounding so hard it felt like it would jump out of her throat, but she still put on a brave face. "Youre thinking too much."
"Am I?" Rhett asked with a smile, suddenly reaching out to pull the scarf from around her neck. Her skin was a mess of bruises, a sight too painful to look at directly.
The mans eyes darkened, then he sneered, "Did he do this?"
Scarlett felt like a scar had been ripped open, her eyes flashing with unbearable pain as she pushed him away. "Please show some respect, I am your aunt."
"Ha..." Rhett seemed to care little, casually looking her up and down before speaking sarcastically, "It seems that life after marrying my uncle wasnt as good as you imagined. Being Mrs. Cullen isnt easy, is it?"
He paused, then added, "Seeing you in pain like this, Im relieved."
Each word was like a sharp awl, piercing her heart. Scarlett was in unbearable pain.
At that moment, the elevator doors opened, and she fled past him like a whipped dog, escaping in a panic.
She got in the car and quietly wiped away her tears, not wanting the man in the car to see a trace of them.
Unfortunately, he noticed.
His large hand reached over, pinching her delicate chin. Edward Cullen looked at her with a sinister expression, "Crying?"
Scarlett shook her head, "No, I just got some sand in my eyes."
"I dont like women to cry, especially... women who dont like me."
Scarlett trembled with fear, but forced a smile.
"You look really ugly like this," Edward said, squeezing her chin so hard she thought it would break.
"Ive tried my best, what more do you want from me?"
"Try harder. Think about your brother," Edward sneered, releasing her, and said no more.
Scarlett wanted to cry, but she didnt dare, not in front of Edward.
Because she had no right to. Everything today was because of her, and she had no right to call for a stop.
She was probably doomed to be entangled with the two Cullen men for the rest of her life, and neither would let the other go.
