The night wind was like a sharp blade, cutting through the faces of pedestrians, causing them to wince and wrap their coats tighter around them.
Outside the Lockhart Enterprises building, a girl in a woolen coat stood alone, hugging herself, her face a bit pale as if waiting for someone, occasionally peering into the lobby.
Meadow Ji exhaled, rubbing her hands that were nearly numb from the cold, and glanced at the somewhat empty lobby before looking back down at her watch. A flash of pain crossed her melancholic eyes.
She had been standing here all night, and Ethan Lockhart had not shown up.
Perhaps he didnt want to see her.
The Ji Family was now facing a significant crisis, and she had to see Ethan Lockhart no matter what.
A touch of determination flickered in her dark eyes, and she bit her lower lip tightly until a faint taste of iron spread in her mouth before releasing it. Her originally pale lips added a touch of vermilion that slowly dried into a dark red, wrinkling in the lines of her lips. She licked them, and the dark red disappeared, her lips cracked and returned to their initial pale state.
Lifting her head slightly, she saw someone walking out of the lobby.
A trench coat accentuated his sharp and cold demeanor, his tall figure upright, slightly messy hair covering the mans emotions. His nose was elegantly prominent. Upon seeing the person at the door, he paused, a faint smile on his lips, not warm as spring but cold as frost, with an aura of violence that made him seem even more reckless and deadly.
At the first glance of this man, Meadow felt her body tremble uncontrollably, fear rushing in like a broken dam, causing her to lower her head.
She heard footsteps approaching and was tongue-tied, unsure of what to say. What would Ethan say to her? Her mind was in chaos. However, the man did not stop beside her, not even sparing her a glance as he passed by. As the sound of his footsteps receded, Meadow clenched her fists, steeling herself to call out to him.
"Mr. Lockhart!" Meadows hands, hanging by her sides, tightened and then suddenly relaxed as she ran over.
Hearing the voice from behind, Ethan Lockhart snorted coldly, casually loosening his collar. He would never forget that voice in his lifetime.
He turned gracefully, a cold smile playing on his lips as he looked at Meadow Ji, examining her from head to toe.
"Please wait!" Meadow looked at his cold smile, felt a sudden panic in her heart, and her running steps faltered. She looked up at Ethan Lockhart and pleaded in a low voice, "I would like to ask you to talk with Ji..."
Ethan Lockhart snorted coldly, his icy eyes fixed on her pale and thin face, his lips tightly pursed, saying nothing.
Meadow nervously bit her lip and took a few more steps forward, only to be suddenly stopped by black-suited bodyguards, leaving her at a loss.
"Miss Ji? Youve finally decided to come back?" Ethan Lockhart spoke with sarcasm, his hands in his pockets, his gaze scanning Meadow Ji inch by inch, like a hunter admiring his prey. He leaned in close to her, his lips curling into a mocking smile, "Should I wish you a happy marriage?"
Meadow stared blankly at the man in front of her, unsure of what to say. She knew it would be like this. She slightly lowered her head, her hands clenched at her sides, her face pale, her melancholic eyes filled with pain.
She moved her red lips, wanting to say something, but Ethan Lockhart interrupted, "Im afraid I wont negotiate with your Ji Family unless..."
