Despite Scarlett OHaras relentless struggle, she was still laid upon the operating table. As the cold surgical instruments were about to invade her body, she found a surge of strength she didnt know she had, grabbing a gleaming scalpel from the side and lunging at those who would do harm.
"Back off!" Scarlett leaped from the bed, clutching the knife tightly as she snarled, "Is there another way out?"
A male doctor with black-rimmed glasses swallowed hard, "Y-Yes, theres a rear exit."
She didnt dare to let her guard down, watching the perpetrators warily as she inched towards the back door. At that moment, Scarlett felt a rush of warmth running down her leg. She froze, looking down in a daze, and her mind exploded with a thunderous roar.
The medical staff, who were still troubled by not being able to complete Mr. Gatsbys task, breathed a collective sigh of relief. They hadnt laid a hand on her, but it was clear that the child could not be saved.
"You... save my baby..."
Scarletts eyes were filled with the sight of the blood dripping onto the floor, and her abdomen began to cramp. Her legs buckled, and she collapsed onto the ground.
In the VIP ward—
"Jay, I wish I could bear you a child too, but my body is just not strong enough..." Daisy Buchanan, with tears in her eyes, nestled in Jay Gatsbys embrace, sobbing.
Jay tenderly wiped away her tears, and in a moment of distraction, he thought of another woman who refused to cry so stubbornly.
"Silly, its enough that youre healthy and by my side. Dont worry about that woman for now, curing your illness is the most important thing," he comforted.
Through her tearful gaze, Daisy caressed Jays face, which was more handsome than ever before, and a flash of infatuation and determination crossed her eyes. The Gatsby Enterprises were not what they used to be; under Jay Gatsbys strong leadership, they had become the most prominent family in New York.
A man like him deserved a woman like Daisy Buchanan.
No, this man was originally hers, and she would never let him go to someone else!
Dr. Wilson stood by and said, "Let the donor rest for a week, and then she can be bled for the hematopoietic stem cell transplantation."
The door suddenly burst open, and Scarletts shrill and hoarse voice rang out, "Impossible! You killed my child, and now you want me to save her?!"
Jays heart trembled, and his pupils contracted sharply.
All he saw was the large patch of bright red on her light-colored dress, and the dried blood on her slender, fair legs.
Red and white, mixed together, were so dazzling, reminding him of the loss of a life.
It was just a tiny embryo, but Daisy was a living person, and she was worth it.
Jay comforted himself in his heart, but he still felt a pang because of the hatred in Scarletts eyes.
"Scarlett OHara, are you so heartless?" he said in a deep voice, "As long as you are willing to save Daisy, I can give you anything you want!"
His eyes were full of affection for Daisy, which hurt her so much that she could hardly keep her eyes open. She clenched her fists, enduring the pain, staring at Jays face without blinking: "Then I want all of Mr. Gatsbys shares."
Unfortunately, she found no hesitation or dissatisfaction in his eyes; Mr. Gatsby was very generous and eager.
"Done."
Scarlett suddenly laughed, a desolate laugh.
Jay Gatsby was willing to exchange the entire Gatsby Enterprises for Daisys life; what did her poor child amount to then?
Nothing at all!
In the face of such true love, she was utterly defeated!
She said fiercely, "Never! Even if I bleed to death, I wont make it easy for you, you adulterous couple!"
At Jay Gatsbys command, two bodyguards approached.
"You dont have a choice!"
