"Damn it, I knew that woman was faking it. She must have gone back already," Ethan Hunter muttered to himself, his car parked by the side of the Riverview Bridge, at the very spot where he had left Lily Thompson before. He slammed the steering wheel in frustration, his expression a mix of anger and something else he refused to acknowledge.
How could Lily Thompson possibly be truly hurt?
Throughout their three years of marriage, she had used such excuses to deceive him countless times. Each time, against his better judgment, he had sent her to the hospital, asking his childhood friend, the reputable Dr. Wen to examine her, and every time it turned out to be nothing serious.
The thought made Ethan even more furious at his own stupidity. He rolled up the car window, his face set in a cold, determined expression, and drove away.
As night fell, the city was still alive with lights and noise, its level of liveliness not diminished from the day.
In a high-end club where revelry was in full swing, a group of people were chatting and laughing in a corner, enjoying their drinks. Only one person, holding a glass of wine, wore a frown on his face, his mind clearly elsewhere.
"Ethan, whats up with you tonight? You seem preoccupied," Dr. Wen said, her sultry face and sexy figure drawing attention from many in the club.
However, Ethan was completely oblivious to her charm, instead downing his glass of liquor in one gulp and gruffly muttering, "Leave me alone."
Ethans attitude raised an eyebrow from Dr. Wen, but she didnt say anything more.
The atmosphere at the table became somewhat stagnant. Someone took a swig of their drink and gossiped, "Have you guys heard? A woman jumped off the Riverview Bridge today!"
Gossip was always a great way to liven up the mood, and many people immediately perked up, asking, "Is that true?"
"It must be. I heard from a friend, quite a few people saw it. The one who jumped was a woman..."
Ethans hand, pouring himself more liquor, trembled, causing some of the liquid to spill over the rim of the glass and soak half the table. Dr. Wens expression changed, her gaze fixed on him.
The Riverview Bridge... that was exactly where he had left Lily Thompson earlier today!
Ethans face changed instantly. A suspicion began to form in his mind, yet he couldnt bring himself to believe that Lily would do something like that.
He had done worse to her before, and she had endured it all. Why would she seek death so easily?
She was a resilient woman; he shouldnt waste any concern on her!
Trying to push the thought away, Ethan continued to pour himself drinks. Before he realized it, an entire bottle of liquor had been consumed.
Finally, when not a single drop was left in the bottle, Ethans eyes darkened, and he took out his phone to call Lily.
Several unanswered calls later, the restlessness in his heart could no longer be suppressed. Ethan stood up with a dark expression, startling the others at the table.
"I have something to take care of, you guys continue, the drinks are on me."
No one dared to stop Ethan when he was clearly seething with anger, they just smiled and said it was fine, except for Dr. Wen, who also stood up, grabbing Ethans arm and frowning, "You usually dont go back until late, why are you leaving so early after staying for just a bit?"
Ethans mind was in turmoil, with images of Lily jumping off the bridge flashing before his eyes, causing him great distress.
He ruthlessly shook off Dr. Wens hand on his arm and left without a word.
Sitting in the drivers seat, Ethan slammed the steering wheel in frustration. Why should he worry about that hateful woman? It would be better if she were dead! To atone in the afterlife for Snow Thompson!
