In the bustling corridors of Deepwater Central Hospital, a gaunt woman knelt with a listless expression, drawing little surprise from the passersby. The occasional curious onlooker would inquire, and the nurses, with a hint of disdain, would reveal the truth.

“She was once a cardiothoracic surgeon here. Three years ago, she convinced her mother-in-law, who was in stage two lung cancer, to undergo cancer cell removal surgery. The result was a botched operation that left her mother-in-law in a vegetative state! Do you know who her husband is? The infamous Henry!”

“Isn’t she the rags-to-riches Jocelyn? I remember that fairy-tale-like wedding! Everyone in Deepwater knew her mother-in-law never approved of her. Was the mistake intentional?”

“No one knows for sure. But Mr. Yan directly revoked her medical license, and the hospital fired her. For three years, she’s been like this, atoning!”

Jocelyn had heard these baseless speculations countless times.

Her hands clenched on her knees, a flicker of resentment flashed through her eyes.
