“Ms. Shu, I’m sorry to inform you that you’ve lost your sight temporarily.”
When Melody Shu awoke, she was greeted by an abyss of darkness, and the doctor’s words were even harder to accept.
The boundless darkness sparked infinite panic within her, sending chills down her body.
She was blind?!
Then, the doctor soothed, “It’s only temporary. As long as you take your medication on time, there’s a chance you could regain your sight.”
The doctor’s comfort brought a glimmer of stability to Melody, but it was shattered by a man who entered from outside the door.
“Regain your sight? Melody Shu, don’t even dream about it!”
Ashton Parker’s voice was icy to the core, and even without sight, one could feel the rage radiating from him.
“This is karma!”
Ashton gripped Melody’s chin, snarling viciously.
Still immersed in panic, Melody instinctively reached for Ashton upon hearing his voice.
Her hands quickly felt for his clothing, but before she could grasp even a corner, Ashton cruelly stepped back, causing Melody to lunge forward and fall heavily to the ground.
The loud thud echoed as Melody’s body ached, especially her head, as if something had exploded inside, forcing her to curl up in pain.
“Ashton, it hurts!”
The intense pain made Melody cry out, but Ashton roughly grabbed her shoulders the next moment.
“You murderer, what qualifications do you have to speak of pain! Your pain is nothing compared to the agony of losing Yara!”
His cold words snapped Melody back to reality.
The reason she was in the hospital was due to a severe car accident.
And in that car was Ashton’s beloved—Yara Zhou.
Three years ago, it was Yara’s departure that allowed her to marry Ashton.
So, as soon as she heard Yara was back in the country, Melody couldn’t help but ask her out to talk.
But she never expected…
Ashton’s eyes, filled with malevolence, seemed to wish to tear Melody apart to assuage his hatred.
He fiercely pinched Melody’s jaw, his words filled with hatred, chilling the air around them.
“Yara is my life, why didn’t you die instead?!”
The desperate and furious accusations sent a shiver through Melody, and the pain in her face and head froze at these words.
She had always known that in Ashton’s heart, there was only Yara Zhou.
Yet, she was still wounded by such words, her heart feeling as if it had been crudely cut out, soon left bleeding and causing her to suffocate in pain.
“It wasn’t intentional, I didn’t mean to harm her!”
Her hollow gaze was panicked and desperate to explain,
But it was interrupted by a crisp slap, so forceful it left her dazed.
It felt as if it struck her heart directly, slowing her entire being, the pain in her heart numbing from the slap, seeping slowly into her limbs.
Ashton’s voice, bone-chilling and frosty: “Melody Shu, your feigned innocence is truly repulsive!”
The coldness pierced her marrow, entwining with the pain, causing her unbearable agony.
Yet, Melody laughed to herself, her laughter desolate and mournful.
“Ashton, she is your life, what am I then? I am your wife!”
Ashton’s lips curled into a mocking sneer: “Wife? You don’t deserve that!”
He always had a knack for hurtful words, as if she couldn’t feel pain.
Melody gave a bleak smile, a tear sliding from the corner of her eye, and whispered, “Unfortunately, Yara Zhou is dead!”
The words were like a storm, thickening the cold aura around Ashton, reeking of bloodlust.
Ashton laughed in rage: “Good, very good!”
The ominous words had barely faded when Melody was unceremoniously dragged out of the ward, feeling a sudden chill.
The unique coldness made Melody realize they must have arrived at the morgue.
Ashton’s voice seeped out like from an ice-cold pool, carrying extreme coldness and pain.
