The rumbling sound of a siren echoed from the seaside port as a massive international luxury cruise ship slowly docked.
Bella Swan gazed at the coastal city she had been away from for five years, her heart filled with emotion.
"Max Gray, are you daydreaming again while walking?" A soft, yet coldly toned childs voice pulled Bellas thoughts back.
"Sugar, Mommys just checking if the person picking us up is here yet..." Bella raised her eyebrows, looking at the child whose height hadnt yet reached her waist with a helpless expression.
"Well walk ourselves. Are you sure youre not joking with your son about being so big and still needing to be picked up?"
Max rolled his eyes, shook his head, and led Bella towards the taxi pick-up area.
Bella had arranged for a college classmate to pick them up, but she looked around and didnt see a familiar face.
"Bella Swan, starting tomorrow, you find a job, and Ill find a dad. We wont disturb each other, got it?"
In the taxi, Max looked at the 3D map of Harbor City on his phone and spoke seriously to Bella.
The driver in the front seat couldnt help but glance at the two with a look of complexity and uncertainty.
Bellas mouth twitched: "Ive told you, you were born from a rock, with only a mother and no father!"
Ever since Max was three, he had been constantly asking Bella about his father. Bella had just quietly bought him the childrens version of "Journey to the West" and highlighted the Chapter on how Sun Wukong was born with a red pen.
"Are you still trying to fool me like Im three?" Max gave Bella a disdainful look, then looked out the window, comparing the scenery with the map on his phone.
Bella rubbed her temples, put on her earphones, and refused to continue communicating with Max.
She had just found a man with superior looks and intelligence; how could the end product be completely out of her control?
Just by the fact that Max had stopped calling her "mom" and started calling her by her first name since he was three, Bella knew the childs temperament definitely didnt take after her.
Now that she had reclaimed most of her mothers inheritance, was it necessary to seriously look for Maxs biological father?
Thinking of the Fantasy Nights Club, and the man tied up on the big bed, and his identity as a male escort, Bella shook her head fiercely—
She must never let Max know that his father was such a disgraceful man!
The next morning, Bella prepared to go to Thompson Enterprises, the company of her father who had tried to force her into a political marriage five years ago.
She had told Max a thousand times and ten thousand times not to open the door to strangers and not to go out casually.
But Max stretched out his chubby hand, pointed to the TV, and said seriously, "Im going to participate in this Dad, Where Are You event later."
Bellas expression changed in an instant: "Max Gray, how can I make you act like a normal five-year-old?"
"You find me a dad, and I wont be a brat anymore."
Max pretended to be an adult, stroking his chin with an air of nobility that seemed to emanate from within.
As soon as Bella left the house, Max turned off the TV, took his little school bag and cell phone, put on cool black sunglasses, and left the apartment.
Max had navigated the route from the community to the event venue through his phone.
He was fed up with the days without a father, and today he was determined to find a dad to take home!
Max made up his mind and followed the navigation instructions to cross the road.
But as soon as he took a few steps, an out-of-control car collided straight into him.
Maxs small body was thrown up and then fell heavily...
