"Miss Wilson, the fetus is very healthy; in another month, it will be born safely," the doctors mechanical words echoed in Daisy Buchanans ears, but she couldnt focus on them. A mocking smile played on her crimson lips. What was the use of a healthy child if it was destined to be a blood donor for another?
Once filled with anticipation for her childs arrival, Daisy now regretted conceiving him. She was driven to the magnificent estate on the outskirts of town by Tom Robinson. As her feet touched the ground, a crowd of servants poured out of the estate.
"Qianqians back?" Rebecca Wilson greeted her with a beaming smile, mirroring the words she had spoken the summer their parents brought her home after eighteen years at Thornfield. They were identical twins, sharing nearly the same face. Once, Daisy took pride in having a sister who looked just like her; now, she despised this "good" sister of hers.
"Dont blame me, Qianqian. I had no choice but to ask Jay for help," Rebecca said, her voice dripping with sincerity as she held Daisys hand. But Daisy didnt believe a word Rebecca said. What did she mean by no choice? With such advanced medical science, why didnt she take her child abroad for treatment? Why must Daisys child donate blood to Rebeccas child?
How much blood could a newborn possibly have to spare? These questions screamed in Daisys mind, but she dared not voice them to Rebecca. Her beloved grandmother was ill, her doting second uncles company was on the brink of bankruptcy, and her favorite cousin had been kidnapped. She knew Rebecca was behind it all but was powerless to fight back.
With no other options, she had to use her own child to exchange for the safety of her loved ones.
"Rebecca, I want to see Jay Gatsby once more before this child is born."
Hearing this, Rebeccas bright smile turned gloomy, and she let go of Daisys hand without hesitation, coldly saying, "Even if you dont call me sister, he is still your brother-in-law. Why would you want to see your brother-in-law when youre about to give birth?"
Rebeccas words pushed Daisy beyond her limits. Since coming to this home, she had always been submissive in front of Rebecca, trying to win her favor to get a little attention from their parents. But why was this the result?
She laughed sarcastically, her voice desolate, "Brother-in-law? Ha! Seven months ago, I was his lawful wife, and you were just a mistress!"
Daisys words successfully enraged Rebecca. "People must live in the present. Now I am the lawful wife, and you are not even a mistress." Hearing such a sharply confrontational tone from her, Rebecca couldnt help but sneer.
"If you cant stop thinking about your brother-in-law, then you cant blame me for being ruthless and not taking you in."
In that instant, Daisy saw a flash of malice in Rebeccas eyes. "What are you going to do?"
