Before Jane Eyre could react, she stumbled and was pushed inside. Immediately after, a heavily made-up, beautiful woman walked in and handed Jane a piece of clothing. "This is your uniform, put it on," she said.
Jane took it in a daze and unfolded it, only to be shocked and embarrassed by what she saw. It was a revealing outfit, with a back that was bare and a skirt slit that went high up, making it undeniably alluring.
"Is this... for me to wear?" Jane asked, her heart racing in panic. She shook her head vigorously. "This is too revealing. Do you have anything else?"
"This is the most conservative attire we have here. The boss is showing you mercy since youre new. Dont push your luck!" The woman snorted impatiently. "Youre supposed to be a companion for drinks; stop being so choosy!"
A companion for drinks?
Janes face turned pale instantly: "I didnt know I was supposed to entertain with drinks. I quit!" She dropped the clothing and tried to leave, but the woman blocked her way.
"Miss Eyre, I assume youre in dire need of money? I saw your resume; youre looking for a job that pays well and pays daily. Most jobs wont meet your needs."
"Then I wont do this kind of job either!" Jane clenched her fists. "I wont sell myself for money!"
"What are you thinking? We just want you to entertain with drinks, not sleep with the customers," the woman snorted. "Sometimes, to achieve a goal, one has to sacrifice their dignity. After all, some things are more important than dignity, arent they?"
Janes body jolted suddenly.
She was right.
She came back here not to be imprisoned. She couldnt allow herself to bear false accusations. Edward didnt trust her now; she had to pay back the money first before she could get close to him, reveal Scarletts hypocritical facade, and stand by Edwards side again.
Her hands clenched and unclenched, her eyelashes slightly fluttering. After what seemed like an eternity, she spoke softly: "Alright, Ill do it."
Ten minutes later, she emerged from the room wearing that outfit.
The woman looked her up and down, a satisfied smile on her face: "I didnt expect you to have quite a figure. There are guests in the VIP room right now; you come with me and learn first. Im warning you, those are all important people; dont mess this up!"
Jane swallowed hard.
The short walk felt like a lifetime, and she stood at the door of the private room.
The moment the woman turned the doorknob, Jane already regretted it, but time didnt give her the chance; she was forcefully pulled inside.
All eyes turned to her at the same time.
Their gazes met.
At that moment, Jane felt as if a basin of cold water had been poured over her from head to toe, a chill emanating from her very bones.
It was Edward Cullen!
Edward, clearly surprised to see Jane in such a place, let alone dressed like that, to entertain!
Had she fallen so far into depravity?
Amy walked a few steps and noticed Jane hadnt followed, so she forcefully pulled her, dragging her in front of a group of people, and then sat down between two men, immediately starting to speak words that could make ones cheeks flush just by hearing the beginning.
Jane stood still, her gaze fixed on Edward.
The deafening music seemed to have disappeared; her mind was a complete blank, with only one thought, escape.
She took a few steps back, about to run, but was forcefully pulled back by a greasy hand, plopping down between Edward and another man.
She hadnt sat steadily and leaned to one side, her hand pressing on Edwards leg. The scorching temperature made her jerk her hand back as if she had been bitten by a snake!
Edwards eyes turned terrifying, staring intently at her.
