Scarlett OHara timely held Edward Cullen back, her tone carrying a sense of grievance.
"Edward, I broke the vase that was supposed to be taken to the charity auction tomorrow, what should I do?"
Edward glanced at the vase fragments, his face showing no concern: "Its broken, and thats that. Your well-being is all that matters. Ill have someone make new arrangements."
"But this vase was from the official kiln of the Qing Dynasty, it was entrusted to us by a client. Im afraid we wont be able to find a replacement in time," Scarletts tears fell in strings, "Its all my fault."
"Its not your fault, the one who broke the vase is not you," Edward said, his gaze once again fixed on Jane Eyre: "Youve heard the value of the vase, youre the one who broke it, you should take responsibility."
"This vase wasnt broken by me!"
Jane pointed at Scarlett: "It was accidentally knocked over during our dispute..."
"And then you deliberately pushed Scarlett to the ground and hurt her?" Edward interrupted her, his eyes full of loathing and animosity, "Jane Eyre, you really are refreshing my understanding of malice!"
Malice?
He actually used a word like malice to describe her?
Jane felt her heart being roughly wrung by a big hand, and even breathing was painful.
"Edward, dont be angry," Scarlett clutched Edwards hand, her beautiful eyes flickering with innocence, "After all, you and sister have been together for so many years, its normal for her to be unable to bear the news of our marriage."
She leaned on the sofa, staggering to her feet, pulling at her wound, unable to help but groan, "I should go home first, you and sister should talk it out."
"Theres nothing to talk about with a woman like this," Edward supported her: "Youre injured now, who will take care of you if you go back? You stay here tonight, well figure it out when your injury is better."
"But its not good, what if sister gets angry..."
Scarlett looked at Jane, whose face had turned pale, and bit her lip nervously.
Edward frowned: "This is my house, why care about an outsider?" He coldly glanced at Jane, who seemed nailed in place, "Why havent you left yet?"
Jane stared at their clasped hands, her eyes red.
She wasnt as gorgeous as Scarlett, but she had a feature Scarlett didnt possess: she had particularly developed lacrimal glands, her eyes easily turned red. Many people had been scared by her, and there were also no few who felt heartache for her.
Edward had never seen her like this before.
They had been dating since high school, all the way through university, it could be said that Edward had pampered her to the bone. Jane had never been wronged, naturally she had never turned red-eyed.
But the deeper the love, the more painful the injury, Janes eyes soon turned red and swollen.
Edward saw her like this and paused in his steps.
Scarlett glared fiercely at Jane, then forcefully grabbed Edwards arm: "Edward, that vase..."
Edwards momentary distraction was brought back by the soft and charming voice in his ear, immediately thinking of Janes heartlessness towards him, the last bit of tenderness instantly dissipated, replaced by coldness.
"Jane Eyre, I give you three days. If you dont hand the money over to Scarlett on time, then I can only have the court enforce it."
Edward finished speaking, not even glancing at her again, and walked past her with Scarlett in his support.
Jane reached out to grab him: "Edward, about that year..."
"Dont mention that year to me again!"
Edward fiercely shook off Jane, watching her momentarily lose her balance and fall to the ground.
Her arm scraped against the floor, bringing a burning pain. She struggled to sit up, looking at where it had just hurt, a large piece of skin had been scraped off, the wound continuously seeping blood.
Edwards pupils flickered slightly, and he took a step forward.
Scarletts face changed!
