"This cant be true!"
Jane Eyres face turned pale instantly, her hands clenched at her sides: "Edward would never marry you. He promised that in this life, he would only marry me."
"Why not?" Scarlett OHara raised her lips, "These past two years, I have been by his side every moment, taking care of him, helping him; thats how he was able to recover. Now I am the one he loves the most, and of course, he will marry me."
"You were with him?" Everything came too suddenly, and Jane felt as if she had been struck on the head with a stick, her mind going blank, "But mom clearly said that you went to study abroad..."
Halfway through her words.
As if struck by lightning, all the doubts from the past two years were explained in that moment.
The hesitation from her mother whenever she asked, the resoluteness when she was locked in her room begging to return home, all now transformed into Scarletts triumphant smile.
"It was you! You made mom do it, didnt you?" Jane swayed, taking a step forward, she fiercely grabbed Scarletts arms, "Why, why would you do this to me? I am your sister!"
"Sister?" Scarlett sneered, abruptly shaking off her grip, "You knew I liked Edward too, so since you are my sister, why wouldnt you let him go when I wanted him back then?"
"Its not the same..."
Her fingernails dug so deeply into her palms they almost broke the skin.
Jane looked at the unfamiliar face of Scarlett, her heart aching terribly.
Growing up, the whole family favored the more beautiful and likable younger sister, no matter what it was, she always had to give it to Scarlett.
She could give up anything, but not the one she loved.
"Whats the difference?" Scarlett raised her eyebrows triumphantly, "But it doesnt matter now, we will get married soon, and he will be mine. As for you." She clicked her tongue, "The man you saved with your own life, you didnt hesitate to abandon him and leave with another man after he got hurt, and you even took all his treatment money. I think now, he must really hate you, right?"
"I will tell him everything!"
Jane was trembling with anger, turning to go to Edwards room.
Scarlett suddenly reached out and grabbed her, and in the scuffle, the vase on the cabinet fell to the ground with a "bang!"
A door opened upstairs.
A strange smile appeared on Scarletts face, and in a voice only the two could hear, she said, "Do you think he will believe you?"
With that, she grabbed Janes hand and pushed herself forcefully!
"Ah!"
Blood flowed from the vase shards onto the floor, spreading into thin rivers of red.
Almost at the same time, Edward rushed down from upstairs, holding Scarlett in his arms, his face anxious: "How are you?"
The undisguised tension on his face was like a sharp blade, stabbing straight into Janes heart.
Scarlett was sweating from the pain but shook her head: "Im fine, its just a cut, dont worry."
"How can you say its fine when youre hurt so badly!"
Edward carried her horizontally and gently placed her on the sofa, pulling out a first aid kit from under the table.
Her arm was cut with a long gash, blood continuously oozing out.
As the antiseptic powder was sprinkled, she couldnt help but gasp, then bit her lip as if afraid to worry Edward.
Edward bandaged her up, checked carefully to make sure there were no other injuries, and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Fortunately, its just a flesh wound, no arteries cut." Edward looked up, noticing that Scarletts gaze had been fixed behind her, and followed her eyes to turn around.
He looked at Jane, the cold light in his dark pupils causing a sudden great fear in her heart, and she unconsciously took a step back.
