On May 13th, at 6 a.m., the sky above Clarity Falls was shrouded in a veil of mist, casting a gray pall over the entire city. The occasional rumble of thunder echoed through the air, yet the rain held back, as if gathering strength and waiting for something significant.
At that moment, in the Central City Hospital, a man and a woman escorted Ivy Fang, who had just undergone an abortion, to the rooftop of the hospital building. With no one else around, Ivy was abruptly released by them, falling to her knees on the hard concrete as her weakened body failed to maintain balance. The pain from the contact was sharp, but Ivy had more pressing concerns as she looked up at the cold gaze of the man and the triumphant smirk of the woman, their expressions cutting into her heart like a blade.
"Why?" Ivy murmured, seeking an explanation for the sudden change in their attitudes, which had turned cold and unfamiliar.
She couldnt comprehend why the man she loved so deeply, the one she would do anything for, even marry another, was treating her so brutally. Hadnt she followed his instructions to ensure her supposed husband was left without an heir? Hadnt she stolen company secrets for him?
The man offered no response to Ivys question, but the woman beside him seemed to find humor in it. "Ha, why? Ivy Fang, you really are incredibly naive," she mocked, causing Ivys breath to hitch and a pang of pain to shoot through her heart.
"Since everything has already been settled, it doesnt hurt to tell you the truth," the woman said, relishing in Ivys hurt expression. She down to Ivys level, lifting her chin with a hint of jealousy in her voice, "You didnt really think Ray Zheng genuinely liked you, did you? Let me tell you, hes in love with me and has no feelings for you. The reason he got close to you was because someone wanted your Fang family and your husband to be left with nothing."
"What are you saying?" Ivy looked at the woman and the man, who still hadnt refuted her words, in disbelief.
The womans words rang true to Ivy, and in that moment, she felt as if her heart was tearing apart, bleeding with the realization.
"Ha..." Ivy suddenly threw her head back and laughed, but as she laughed, tears streamed down her cheeks, belying her previous trust in them.
Her manic laughter made the man frown, and he impatiently ordered, "Stop wasting time, do it."
Together, the man and woman lifted Ivy again, moving her towards the edge of the rooftop. The woman continued her monologue in Ivys ear, "Ivy Fang, after you die, dont forget to be born into a better life next time."
Ivy wanted to resist, but she was too weak from her recent surgery and could only watch as she was brought closer to the edge.
"Ha, even if you kill me today, you two will still not escape death! He wont let you live," Ivy declared with a laugh.
"Push her down," the man commanded, and together with the woman, they forcefully pushed Ivy over the edge.
As her body fell through the air, Ivys eyes were filled with hatred for the couple on the rooftop and a sense of relief.
In this life, she had made too many mistakes and wronged too many people. Perhaps death was a form of atonement.
As if the heavens were weeping for her or had heard her thoughts, the long-awaited downpour finally began.
In the haze, Ivy was startled to see a tall figure leap from the rooftop, seemingly trying to embrace her.
Instinctively, Ivy reached out, but the speed of her descent was too great, and she couldnt touch him.
However, before she hit the ground, she heard his voice filled with terror.
He said, "Ivy Fang, dont leave me."
Ivy wanted to tell him how foolish he was for jumping after her, that she wasnt worth it.
But a surge of courage welled up inside her, and she shouted to the man falling with her, "Leon Qin, if I could start over, I would never wrong you!"
Whether the man heard her words or not, Ivy didnt know, for she had already hit the ground, leaving the world behind.
...
In Clarity Falls, at the Phoenix Hotels top-tier suite, a woman in a thin nightgown lay unconscious on the large bed. Two seconds later, she suddenly frowned, and then her closed eyes snapped open, filled with confusion.
This woman was none other than Ivy Fang, who had been pushed from the rooftop.
Ivy blinked, hardly daring to believe she was still alive.
At that moment, a voice from outside the door announced, "Ms. Fang, your dinner has arrived."
Ivy quickly gathered her wits and apologized to the person outside, "Sorry, could you please leave it at the door?"
"Of course, Ms. Fang. Enjoy your meal," the waiter politely replied before leaving.
The room fell silent again, and Ivy got out of bed to look around. She found her scattered clothes and phone on the living room floor.
Dressing herself, Ivy turned on her phone and saw the time displayed on it, which made her freeze.
The date showed five years ago, just after she had married Leon Qin.
And the date was May 13th...
A date she would never forget, the day she lost her child and was pushed from the building, also Leon Qins birthday.
Ivys eyes welled up with emotion as she stared at her phone. Although it was hard to believe, she was certain that she had been reborn, back to the very beginning of her tragedy.
God had given her a chance, and she could really start over. This time, she would not disappoint her family and friends, would not lose her company.
Nor would she... let him down again...
As Ivy made her silent vows, her phone suddenly rang, displaying Leon Qins name.
Thinking of him had brought his call, and for a moment, Ivy felt her heart race, unsure if it was from excitement or guilt.
"Leon Qin..." Ivys voice was a bit hoarse.
There was a pause on the other end before he asked in a deep voice, "Where are you?"
