Love Above the Clouds -
It was the late summer in New York, just after three in the morning.
The door lock clicked, and Howard Blake, dressed in a white uniform, walked in, dragging a leather suitcase behind him.
"Did you get back late because of a flight delay?" Evelyn Brooks greeted him, taking the suitcase from his hand.
"Yep, the weather was bad," Howards voice was indifferent.
Out of the corner of her eye, Evelyn noticed a lipstick stain on his collar. She paused, taken aback.
Rumors of Howards affairs were nothing new to her. But after three years together, she knew when to keep silent.
Like now, she had to pretend she hadnt seen anything.
Their relationship wasnt one where she could confront him with any confidence鈥攕he was more of a long-term companion than a girlfriend.
"Tired, huh? Go take a shower and rest," Evelyn suppressed the strange bitterness in her heart, yet couldnt help but observe him subtly.
Howard took off his white shirt, glanced at the stain on the collar for a moment, then tossed it into the laundry basket.
The sound of water from the bathroom made Evelyns heart damp.
The phone on the bedside table vibrated violently, and Evelyn picked it up and unlocked it.
"Howard, I miss your warmth. I had a great time tonight," read the message on the screen.
Evelyn was stunned. She realized she had picked up the wrong phone, but the content of the message made her feel choked.
Who was this woman, so intimate as to call him Howard?
The flight delay must have been with that woman...
An indescribable feeling made Evelyn feel oppressed.
In a relationship with no guarantees, she loved as if walking on thin ice, any disturbance.
The bathroom door opened, and Howard, wrapped in a towel, walked out and saw Evelyn sitting on the bed in a daze.
"Move out of here tomorrow. Ive found you an apartment near the airport. Itll be more convenient for your commute," Howard lay down, his deep voice carrying an irresistible tone.
Evelyns expression froze, and she looked at him in shock. "Why?"
Howard glanced at her, then looked away, his lips moving lightly, "Rose is back, and she has nowhere to stay."
As soon as he finished speaking, the blood drained from Evelyns face, leaving her pale.
"Because shes back, you... youre breaking up with me, right?" Evelyn asked with difficulty, her hands tightly clutching the corner of the blanket, trembling slightly.
Howard, who had closed his eyes, suddenly opened them and stared at her directly, "Have we ever been dating?"
Evelyn was completely frozen, cold all over.
Three years of intimate relationship, and she didnt even deserve to use the simple word breakup.
Yes, she was just a dispensable companion, a substitute after his beloved left. What qualifications did she have to confront Howard?
Howards white moonlight was back, and it was her time to leave. Why look for trouble?
In the end, it was just the unwillingness to give up these three years of dedication...
"Howard, weve been together... Ive been with you for three years, such a big thing you should have told me in advance, let me prepare, right?" Evelyns voice was a bit hoarse.
Howard looked down at his phone, his eyes with a trace of warmth.
Hearing Evelyns words, he was clearly displeased, "I told you the night before and arranged a place for you to stay. What else do you want to make a fuss about?"
Evelyns eyes turned red instantly, and she turned her head to the other side, not wanting the arrogant and indifferent man to see the humiliation and tears in her eyes.
But the more she tried to hold back, the more obvious her sobs became.
Howard frowned, and with a long arm, he pulled Evelyn into his arms.
"Youre feeling wronged now? I like women who know when to advance and retreat. Dont cry, okay?" With that, the hand that controlled the life and death of the plane stroked into her nightgown.
