Linda Lee felt a surge of anger and blood rush to her head. Just as she was about to knock on the door, her nose began to bleed again. She quickly tilted her head back, grabbed some tissues to stop the bleeding, and felt a pang in her heart. How had things come to this point between her and Sean Parker?
A ding sounded, and a text message arrived on her phone. Through her blurred vision, she saw that the message indicated: "Miss Linda Lee, your second chemotherapy session is in two weeks. We hope you can arrive at the hospital on time."
Lindas eyes darkened, and she stared at the closed door, deleting the notification message with a bitter smile.
Sean was true to his word. That day, several housekeepers and bodyguards appeared in the house. She couldnt even move an inch beyond her restricted area. Even when she went to the bathroom, a housekeeper would wait outside, urging her if she took too long.
...
"Hey, do you think we should tell Mr. Parker? Mrs. Parker doesnt seem to be in good health; shes always having nosebleeds."
"Youve seen it too? Ive seen Mrs. Parker having nosebleeds for no reason several times, and once it starts, its hard to stop. Mrs. Parkers complexion is also not good, shes so thin."
When Linda went to the kitchen to pour a glass of water, she overheard two nannies whispering in the kitchen. Her heart jolted, and subconsciously, she touched her nose to make sure there was no blood before entering and interrupting them in a deep voice, "No need to tell him. Im just bored at home and having internal heat. If you insist on telling him, then ask him to let me go out."
The two nannies immediately fell silent and hurriedly left the kitchen.
Linda sighed, filled a cup with hot water, and her phone signaled a text message. The only ones who would text her now, besides Sean, were the hospital.
As expected, it was a reminder from the hospital.
There were only three days left until her second chemotherapy session. If she didnt go, her condition would likely deteriorate more rapidly and become more noticeable to others.
Her attending physician had told her that the pain from chemotherapy would increase with the progression of her illness. Without a suitable bone marrow match, the only way to temporarily slow down the rate of deterioration was to undergo chemotherapy more frequently.
Just as she was hesitating about how to talk to Sean about going out, he took the initiative to call her: "Change your clothes tonight, put on some makeup, Im coming to pick you up for a gala event."
Linda was taken aback. Sean hadnt taken her to any events in a long time. She had seen quite a few of his scandalous news stories in the entertainment press, where he always attended with different women.
She couldnt help but provoke him, sarcastically saying, "What happened? Arent those women around you? Susan Thompson? Havent you been taking her to events lately?"
This was clearly a good opportunity to go out, but she just couldnt help but anger him.
Seans tone was indifferent: "I wont be taking her anymore. You dont need to be sarcastic. Im taking you tonight only because of your status."
"Right, Susan is pregnant with your child, you must be taking good care of her, right?" Linda still sneered.
There was a moment of silence on the other end, then a deep voice asked, "Did she tell you about this too?"
"Why, shouldnt I know? Are you afraid Ill harm her?" Linda listened to his words, somewhat amused, with a metallic taste rising in her throat. It took her a while to swallow the discomfort before continuing, "Dont worry, what ability do I have to harm others now?"
Sean didnt respond and hung up the phone directly.
Linda took a deep breath, put away her phone, and went upstairs to pick a lovely short dress suitable for a quick escape and applied some light makeup.
Before long, Sean arrived. He was momentarily stunned when he saw her coming downstairs, almost believing that they had returned to their youth. She dressed up carefully, he waited patiently downstairs, and then they went out on a date together.
"Whats wrong?" Linda walked up to him.
Sean snapped out of it and simultaneously hardened his expression, not saying a word, and walked out first.
Dealing with social events is always a lengthy process. Sean had many such events, and Linda finally found an opportunity to slip away from him. Taking advantage of his inattention, she carefully moved towards the door.
About to reach the door and turn her head, she collided with a waiter holding a tray, spilling the wine all over her. Linda was knocked off balance and was about to fall to the ground. She closed her eyes in fright, her heart filled with despair, thinking: Its over, it seems I cant escape.
"Be careful--"
But there was no expected pain. A force from behind grabbed her and pulled her into an embrace. Linda opened her eyes and was even more surprised: "Charles Jagger? Youre back?"
