"I wont agree to it."
However, reality hit Elizabeth hard. The next day, upon hearing about the situation, Mr. Darcy came straight to her hospital room in his patients gown and refused her with a cold expression, as if yesterdays warm and sunny demeanor had never existed.
Elizabeth was frozen in place, wanting to scream in her heart: Hey, youre just a BUG! What position do you have to refuse me?
"Why wont you agree?" Elizabeth asked with a sense of grievance.
Mr. Darcy looked down at her, and after a long gaze, he finally spoke, "Miss Bennet, I believe there seems to be no interaction between us. Why should I agree to engage with you for no reason?"
He had a point.
Elizabeth put away her aggrieved expression and remained silent.
Seeing that she was not speaking, Mr. Darcy relaxed his expression and said in a gentle tone, "Then I would ask Miss Bennet to clarify this with the elders."
With that, Mr. Darcy prepared to leave.
Before he could turn around, Elizabeths voice came from behind again, "I am your savior after all. You wont help me with such a small favor, its just an engagement, not marriage. Tsk, I really shouldnt have saved you."
Mr. Darcy stopped in his tracks, turned around, and with a wry smile, said, "Do you think this is a childs make-believe game? Just engaged, not married?"
"You know that both our families have already spread the news. Im in a dilemma. As the heir to the Bingley enterprise, you dont want to see the enterprise become the subject of gossip, right?" Elizabeth continued to persuade him, and after a pause, explained, "After were engaged, we can find a suitable opportunity to annul the engagement, wouldnt that be fine?"
"I..." Mr. Darcy instinctively wanted to refute something but didnt continue.
"Well, I wont force you. Anyway, Ive figured it out. If you want to thank me for saving your life, its just lip service." Elizabeth feigned a sigh.
Mr. Darcy was strangled by her, looked at her with a complex expression, and after a long sigh, said, "Are you sure you will find an opportunity to annul the engagement?"
Hearing him say this, Elizabeth knew she had succeeded and nodded vigorously, "Of course, of course, I will!"
"Alright, I hope you keep your word." Mr. Darcy finally agreed, and before leaving, he didnt forget to take a deep look at her, then muttered to himself, "But shouldnt you be engaged to Mr. Bingley?"
"What? Whats that?" Elizabeth didnt hear clearly and asked again.
Mr. Darcy, however, did not continue to answer, shook his head lightly, and said, "Nothing, let it be."
...
After settling Mr. Darcy, there were basically no obstacles in the entire engagement ceremony, and everything went very smoothly.
But as they say, extreme happiness hides sorrow. Elizabeth never expected that the day after the engagement ceremony, Mr. Bingley would come to her furiously.
"Elizabeth Bennet!" Mr. Bingleys roar was deafening.
Startled, Elizabeth, who was playing with her phone, shuddered all over. She looked around in horror and also indignantly jumped up: "How did you get in here? This is my room! Auntie!"
For some reason, there was no response when she usually shouted at home, and it seemed that Mr. Bingley had come prepared.
Mr. Bingleys gaze was fierce, and his eyes were full of undisguised murderous intent. He sneered, grabbed her wrist, and took her outside.
"What are you doing? Mr. Bingley! I already said that I wont pester you anymore!" A hint of fear welled up from the bottom of Elizabeths heart, and she shouted at him while prying the door panel with the other hand.
"What am I doing? Dont you know clearly in your heart?" Mr. Bingley disregarded her resistance, exerted force, and completely took her away from the room.
Elizabeth was forcibly taken by him towards the direction of the underground parking lot, struggling desperately: "Let go of me! Mr. Bingley! I dont know what youre talking about!"
Mr. Bingleys strength was astonishing, and she had no chance to break free at all.
Until they arrived at the underground parking lot, Mr. Bingley pushed her against the car, his gaze gloomy: "Say, where did you take Jane Eyre? I want to see her!"
Elizabeths wrist was aching from his grip, and she was rubbing her wrist while looking down. Upon hearing the name, she inwardly groaned.
Jane Eyre is the female protagonist of this novel, but ever since she crossed over, she didnt even know what Jane Eyre looked like, so what could she have done to her?
"I dont know! Ive never seen her!" Elizabeth rolled her eyes irritably, preparing to walk away.
However, just as she took a step, she was once again unceremoniously pushed back into place by Mr. Bingley, who then leaned over and pinched her neck with one hand, "You dont know? Heh, tell me the truth or not?"
"I said I dont know, I really dont know!" Elizabeth was choked by him, her face turning red, and she could hardly breathe, let alone struggle.
Hearing that she still didnt loosen her mouth, Mr. Bingley narrowed his eyes, seemingly about to strangle her to death, and his grip on her neck tightened.
Just as Elizabeth doubted whether she was going to die in Mr. Bingleys hands, a dazzling light shone into the dim garage.
The pressure on Mr. Bingleys hands suddenly eased, and taking advantage of his inattention, Elizabeth broke free from the shackles, squatted down, gasping for breath, and looked up to see a person walking out of the light, coming straight to her, and asked with a frown, "What are you doing?"
The person who came was Mr. Darcy!
For a moment, Elizabeth seemed to see an angelic halo around him. This BUG she saved with her own hands was simply her guardian angel!
She pounced over and tightly hugged the man, unable to help but wail loudly: "I was so scared, you came one step later, and I would be dead!"
Mr. Darcys body stiffened, instinctively wanting to push her away, but then he saw the gaze of Mr. Bingley on the side, thought for a while, and did not push her away, but asked with a bit of doubt, "Whats going on?"
Mr. Bingley probably felt guilty and looked at Elizabeth deeply, shaking his head, "Nothing, Im leaving."
Then he opened the car door, started the car, and quickly drove out of the underground parking lot.
Watching the car drive away, Elizabeth finally exhaled with relief.
"Alright, let go of me." Mr. Darcy frowned, immediately stepped back, and kept a distance from Elizabeth.
This change of face was too fast!
Elizabeth wiped her tears, stood up straight, and stepped back a few steps. Forget it, considering that you saved my life as a BUG, I wont care about it.
"Why did you come to find me? Whats the matter?"
