"Of course! Its just a few pearls," the leader of the group boasted, pulling out a pearl necklace from his pocket. The white, deep-sea pearls, each as large as a thumb, gleamed with a soft luster in the sunlight.
Seeing the leader produce the necklace, the other kids also took out pearl rings, pearl bracelets, each a different style but all rare treasures on the market.
Not bad at all, Billy nodded, worthy of the name little spendthrifts, each one was exceptionally generous. The birthday gift for his mom was as good as in the bag!
"And yours?"
"Me?" Billy raised his chin, his eyes flickering. Would he have pearls if he had them to spare?
"With my unbeatable skills, do I even need a bet? Just wait and see..." Billy waved his hand, looking towards Pemberley. "Where is this Big White you mentioned?"
"Coming right now... Hey, there it is..." Following the pointed finger, Billy looked through the iron bars at the robot slowly walking towards them within the estate. The robot was trimming the overgrown flower beds with shears and then sweeping the fallen leaves into a pile, depositing them in the trash can!
"Wow... so smart!" Billy stared as the robot approached, his eyes wide with amazement. This robot was even more intelligent than those hed seen at tech exhibitions on TV, capable of pruning and sweeping!
In New York City, where land was so valuable, to own a hundred-acre estate with a villa and have such a clever robot butler, whoever lived in Pemberley must be quite the wealthy magnate.
"Big White is coming. If we can hit the wire on its head, it will spark and crackle..." The leader of the group then casually pulled out a pearl from his pocket and threw it at Big Whites head. As the pearl flew towards the robot, it swiftly extended its iron hand, catching the pearl mid-air and depositing it into its mechanical belly.
Wow, even using pearls to play, these kids really knew how to spend money. Billy shook his head, thinking that he would love to switch places with Big White.
The first pearl was intercepted, but the others joined in, pulling out various pearls from their bags and throwing them at Big White through the gaps in the iron bars. Big White was quick, but it couldnt handle the onslaught of pearls all at once, and occasionally a few would hit its head, causing it to spark and crackle.
"Kid, its your turn! Show us your so-called unbeatable skills..." The leader clapped Billy on the shoulder and handed him a pearl. "Lets see what you can do. If you can stop Big White, all these pearls are yours..."
Billy, with a sly twinkle in his eye, pocketed the pearl. "Ill use this rock instead. Everyones using pearls; how can we prove it was my throw that hit the mark?"
"Fair enough, do your worst!"
With the pearl safely in his pocket, Billy picked up a stone, aimed at the wire on Big Whites head, and threw it. The robots head immediately sparked and crackled.
"Awesome!"
"Nice one!"
"Thats right, back in the day, I could skip a stone on the river and hit ten flowers with one throw..." Billy boasted, hands on his hips, as the other kids looked at him with newfound admiration.
