As the commotion continued, Jamie Frasers calm voice cut through the air. "Who said your nephew is on the brink of death?" he questioned, drawing the attention of everyone in the room.
Bill Compton looked at Jamie with a furrowed brow. "And who might you be?" he demanded.
Jamie merely smiled and chose not to answer, instead focusing on the patient lying in the bed. At that moment, another person pushed through the crowd.
"Coming through, coming through, Im the family member of the patient in the room," a voice called out.
It was Elizabeth Bennet, the sister of the young patient. She squeezed into the crowd and looked around in shock, her eyes falling on Bill. "Uncle, what are you doing here?" she asked, her voice trembling.
Her gaze then fell on the young boy in the bed, and her eyes welled up with tears. "Xiaohu?" she whispered, her voice breaking.
She rushed to the bedside, her face filled with grief. "Xiaohu, its your sister. Whats happened to you?" she asked, her hands reaching out to touch the boys pale cheek.
Seeing the unfamiliar medical equipment around the bed, she turned to Bill. "Uncle, I thought you said Xiaohu only had pneumonia. Whats going on now?"
Bill simply glanced at the doctor beside him, avoiding Elizabeths desperate gaze.
"Please, Doctor," Elizabeth turned to the doctor, her eyes filled with tears. "Tell me, whats wrong with my brother?"
The doctor hesitated, clearly finding it difficult to deliver the news. "Miss Bennet, Im afraid your brothers condition is quite grave..."
"But he was just supposed to have pneumonia!" Elizabeth interrupted, her voice rising in panic.
The doctor sighed, his expression one of deep sympathy. "Sometimes, unforeseen complications can arise even with seemingly straightforward conditions."
Elizabeths hands clenched the sides of her dress, her knuckles turning white. "Is there nothing you can do?"
Before the doctor could respond, Jamie stepped forward. "I believe theres something we can try," he said, his voice steady and confident.
All eyes turned to Jamie, skepticism written on their faces. Bill scoffed. "And what could you possibly do? Youre not even a doctor."
Jamie ignored the质疑, his focus on Elizabeth. "I can save your brother," he stated simply.
Elizabeths eyes widened, a spark of hope igniting within her. "You can? But how?"
Jamie smiled gently at her. "Lets just say I have some experience with situations like this."
Bella, who had been watching the exchange with a mix of annoyance and disbelief, finally intervened. "Jamie, what are you doing? This is not the time for heroics."
Jamie turned to Bella, his expression serious. "I assure you, I can help. Im not just the security guard here."
Bellas eyes narrowed, clearly not convinced. "And what makes you think you can do what our doctors cant?"
Jamies gaze didnt waver. "Im making a promise. Let me try, or risk losing him."
The room fell silent, the weight of Jamies words hanging in the air. Elizabeth, still clutching her brothers hand, looked at Bella with imploring eyes.
After a tense moment, Bella sighed, her resolve wavering. "Fine," she conceded. "But if anything goes wrong, youre taking full responsibility."
Jamie nodded, not a trace of doubt in his eyes. "I understand."
With that, Jamie approached the bed, carefully examining the young boy. He moved with a confidence that was both reassuring and surprising, given his usual role at the company.
As Jamie began his examination, the room held its breath, everyone waiting to see if this unexpected savior could indeed perform a miracle.
