Thunder roared, and heavy rain poured down, beating against the windows as the wind rustled the leaves in the yard. In the downpour, Emily Thompson, a pregnant woman with over seven months to go, knelt shivering in her thin dress, while the servants inside had grown numb to the sight. Every year, on this day, Emily was forced to kneel in the courtyard for a day and a night.
Today was her wedding anniversary, but it was also the death anniversary of Emily Mitchell, the love of Jason Mitchells life. Emily bit her pale lips, clutching her hands so tightly that the pain from her nails digging into her palms kept her conscious.
Suddenly, her chin was grabbed and lifted.
"How are you holding up? Its only been half a day," Jason Mitchell said through gritted teeth, his eyes cold and filled with hatred as he looked at the miserable Emily.
"Jason, please, Im afraid if I keep kneeling like this, the baby will be at risk..." Emily clutched Jasons arm, pleading.
"Emily, its Jasons mercy that he didnt send you to prison. You murderer, Emily was kind to you, and yet you had the heart to push her down the stairs!" Sarah Mitchell, standing under an umbrella next to Jason, blinked, and tears streamed down her face, looking incredibly pitiful.
"I didnt, I didnt kill Emily, Jason..." Emily looked directly at Jason, her voice weak.
"Shut up! You dont deserve to say Emilys name!" Jason angrily interrupted her, becoming as furious as a trapped beast at the mention of Emilys name, his fingers tightening as if he wanted to crush her chin.
His first love, Emily Mitchell, had fallen from the upstairs on their wedding day, her white wedding dress stained red with blood from the fall, while Emily Thompson stood upstairs, terrified.
"If it werent for your grandfather taking the blame for you and your grandmother pleading for you, do you think you would be alive now?" Jasons voice was cold, exuding a chill.
Feeling Emily shivering uncontrollably, Jason released her, and she collapsed instantly. There was an unreadable emotion in his eyes.
After Emilys parents died in a car accident, her grandfather, who was the Mitchell familys butler, brought her to the Mitchell household, where she became a servant.
Jasons grandmother knew she liked Jason, and after Emilys death, she hoped her love would ease his pain and suggested Jason marry her. Surprisingly, he didnt refuse, and at that time, Emily thought he might have liked her a little.
But she soon realized that he married her only to torment her.
"I didnt kill Emily, I really didnt kill her, Jason, the baby cant be in danger..." Emily clung to Jasons pants, her face分不清是泪水还是雨水, her hair wet and sticking to her pale face, looking extremely miserable.
"Because you went to your grandmother, this child would have never existed! You are not worthy of bearing my child!" Jason kicked her away with disgust and disdain in his eyes.
Emily fell to the ground with a thud, Jasons words stabbing her heart like a sword, her disbelief evident as she looked at him, the coldness of her body not matching the icy pain in her heart.
The rain grew heavier, and Sarah, who had been watching the whole scene, continued to cry pitifully, a malicious glint in her eyes that disappeared as quickly as it came.
"Jason, lets go inside... At least shes alive, but my sister..." As she spoke, her tears fell rapidly.
"No, Jason, I beg you, this is your child..." Emily struggled to get up, but everything became blurry...
