Jane Eyre looked into Edward Cullens deep, mysterious eyes and hesitated for a moment before getting into the car.
"Could you please take me to Riverside Hospital? Thank you!" she said, leaning back against the seat and slowly closing her eyes. She was so tired that she hadnt dared to close her eyes for a moment since yesterday.
Edward signaled Adam Wilmont to drive a little slower. When they arrived at Riverside Hospital, Jane was still asleep, and Edward didnt wake her up. He looked at her; she was sleeping restlessly, her oval face covered with fatigue, and her eyebrows furrowed from time to time.
Jane slept too soundly and accidentally leaned against Edwards body. She woke up abruptly, opening her eyes.
"Sorry."
"Its okay. If theres anything I can do to help, you can call me anytime," Edward replied politely.
"Thank you," Jane said as she got out of the car and closed the door, letting out a long breath before heading towards the hospital.
Edward watched Janes petite figure disappear from sight before signaling Adam to drive away.
Jane didnt understand the companys affairs, but she believed that as long as her father recovered, everything could be resolved. So she took care of her father for another day and, after arranging for a nurse, went back home. Before she could enter her home, she heard Melanie Hamilton and Claire Randall talking and laughing inside.
"Thank goodness the old man had an accident. I was worried that Jane Eyre would complain to him. Now its great that mom, as the acting chairman, can arrange a good position for me."
"Dont worry, I wont let you suffer. You want to marry Jamie Fraser, arent I paving the way for you? Its just a pity about the position of Mrs. Cullen," Melanie sighed.
"Whats there to regret? That second young master of the Cullen family, Edward Cullen, is just a crippled illegitimate child. How can he compare with Jamie Fraser?" Claires face was full of disdain.
Melanie thought about it and agreed, but she was now worried that if the Cullens knew they wanted to break off the engagement, would they retaliate against them?
Hearing this, Jane could no longer bear it, pushed the door open, and the loud noise stopped the two people in the villa from talking and looked over at her.
"Ah, our young lady is back. Quick..." Melanie immediately changed her tone, acting like a madam in a brothel.
"Now its just the three of us, why are you still pretending?" Jane interrupted her angrily.
Melanie also stopped pretending, got up from the chair, and walked up to Jane, sarcastically mocking her, "What are you yelling about? Do you still think you are the young lady of the Eyre family?"
"Did you harm my dad?" Jane asked coldly.
"So what if I did, what if I didnt? Do you think you can fight me now?" Melanie said unscrupulously.
The veins on Janes forehead bulged, and she raised her hand and slapped Melanies cheek.
"Mom, are you okay?" Claire saw her mother being hit and quickly stood up to fight with Jane.
Suddenly, Melanie picked up the vase on the table and smashed it hard on Janes head. Jane was stunned, and blood flowed from her forehead.
Claire was scared and stopped, and after hesitating for a moment, Melanie also smashed the vase on her own forehead and even cried, "Jane, I know you are not in a good mood, but you cant vent on me and your sister!"
"You..." Jane covered her forehead, her eyes were red with blood, and the feeling of dizziness also made her unsteady on her feet.
"Madam, are you okay?"
"Miss, what are you doing?"
The servants heard the noise and rushed over.
"Shes crazy, you have to let her out!" Claire pointed at Jane and ordered.
The servants hesitated for a moment but still pulled Jane out the door. At the door, the servant couldnt help apologizing to her.
"Im sorry, Miss, but now its the madam who is in charge, and I have no choice."
Jane covered her forehead, which was full of blood, and the pain made it almost impossible for her to think. What was it called when everyone abandoned you when you fell? She was experiencing it now.
Inside the villa, the servant helped Melanie bandage her wound.
"Always acting high and mighty, but she is as cheap as her mother," Melanie couldnt help cursing.
"Mom, dont be angry. Fortunately, your reaction was quick. If people saw us bullying her together, it would be hard to explain," Claire said.
"By the way, since you dont want to marry the Cullens, I think we should let that little bitch go," Melanie suddenly said, a chilling light flashing in her eyes. She immediately motioned for Claire to bring the phone over.
"Stop all of Jane Eyres bank cards for me."
She wouldnt directly force Jane to marry Edward Cullen. She would make Jane come to her.
Jane had nowhere to go but to go back to the hospital to take care of her father.
The next morning, the doctor told her it was time to pay, but all her bank cards had been canceled.
She rushed back to the Eyres residence and threw a stack of bank cards at Melanie: "Why did you stop my cards?"
"The Eyre family doesnt feed idle people. You want money without doing anything, its too simple, isnt it?" Melanie said with a sneer.
"Thats the hospitalization fee for my dad, you should pay at least!" Jane didnt expect Melanie to even cut off her fathers hospital fees. They had been husband and wife for so many years, and she didnt even leave a bit of affection!
Melanie sighed and shook her head, "The company is in turmoil now, there is no money at all. I think your father should be able to hold on, after all, for OR."
"You!" Jane was so angry that she couldnt speak.
Melanie leisurely took a sip of porridge and said, "In fact, its not impossible to save your dad, but you have to promise me one condition."
Jane didnt expect Melanie to be so ruthless, even using her father to threaten her. She clenched her anger and asked, "What condition?"
"You marry Edward Cullen on behalf of Claire."
