"Im sorry, I have other matters to attend to," Jane Eyre said, turning to leave. She saw no reason to account for Claire Randalls actions.
"The boss said that if you dont come, you will definitely regret it," the man behind her said calmly.
Janes steps froze, and she reluctantly motioned for him to lead the way. The rear door of the car was opened, and Jane saw the man with a face like ice sculpture inside, momentarily stunned. She had seen Edward Cullen, the second young master of the Cullen family, in the news before but had never met him in person. His facial features were sharply defined, especially his deep-set eyes that seemed to look into the depths of the sea, making him inscrutable.
"Come in and talk," Edward said, briefly sizing up Jane.
Jane carefully sat inside the car, and the assistant drove away. "What did you want to tell me?" Jane asked coldly, silently hugging her arms. Her clothes were wet from the rain, and the air conditioning in the car made her shiver.
"I assume you didnt have time to gather evidence earlier. Here, take this," Edward handed Jane a USB drive.
Jane looked at Edwards hand with well-defined knuckles, feeling the USB drive in his grasp was particularly glaring. It was clear that the Cullens were not ordinary, and Edward must have known about Claires affair for a while.
"So, you were the one who sent me the text message to come to the hotel earlier?" Jane took the USB drive from Edward, unable to deny that he was deeply scheming.
"I just happened to run into you here," Edward replied indifferently.
Seeing that he didnt seem to be lying, Jane clenched the USB drive. "Why are you helping me?"
"Is the reason same boat sufficient?" Edwards lips curled into a smile.
"Stop the car, Im getting off here," Jane said, feeling the man was somewhat dangerous.
After the car stopped, Jane was about to get out when a suit jacket was draped over her. "Dont catch a cold," Edwards voice fell coldly.
After getting out of the car, Jane, wearing the jacket, watched the disappearing black Ferrari and felt a mix of emotions.
Inside the car, assistant Adam Wilmont saw a flicker of amusement in Edwards eyes through the rearview mirror. "Do you think Miss Eyre can outsmart Claire Randall?" he asked.
"That depends on how she uses the USB drive I gave her," Edward said slowly, closing his eyes with a faint, expectant smile. He had long ago asked Adam to investigate Claire, finding her private life chaotic and unworthy of being his wife.
This time, upon receiving news, he intended to see what else Claire would do, but he unexpectedly encountered such a big play, and Miss Eyre seemed more to his taste.
Jane was rushing back in a taxi, planning to come up with a solution with her father. Since Edward was aware of Claires affair, he naturally wouldnt agree to marry her.
Her phone rang urgently. "Miss, your father has had an accident and is now at Riverside Hospital."
Jane quickly asked the driver to turn around and head to Riverside Hospital. Upon arrival, she rushed to the ward and saw Melanie Hamilton sitting aside, crying.
"What happened to my dad?" Jane asked Melanie coldly.
Melanie had married into the Eyre family when Jane was eleven, and their relationship had never been good. Jane didnt want to make her father difficult, so she tolerated it all. "The doctor said it was a sudden cerebral hemorrhage, and its unknown when he will wake up. What should we do?" Melanie said, crying.
"Dad has always been healthy, how could he have a sudden cerebral hemorrhage?" Jane looked at Melanie, questioning.
"What do you mean? Do you think I harmed your father?" Melanie immediately changed her expression, sarcastically asking back.
Seeing Melanies slightly evasive eyes, Jane became more suspicious, saying, "Im just asking, why are you so nervous?"
"Forget it, Im tired and will go back first, so as not to be in the eyes of some people," Melanie rolled her eyes, finished speaking angrily, and turned to leave.
Jane closed the door, tears no longer able to hold back and burst out. In one day, the man she liked betrayed her, and her only family member was now lying in a hospital bed.
"What should I do, Dad?"
After calming down, Jane called her fathers assistant and asked him to keep the news of her fathers hospitalization a secret. She had asked her fathers attending physician, and her father had fallen from the stairs. It would take several months at the least for him to wake up.
The next morning, the news of the chairman of OR Corporation having a sudden cerebral hemorrhage made the headlines, and the assistant called to say, "Miss, I dont know who deliberately spread the news to the media. Its too late for our PR department to handle it in the morning. Youd better come to the company as soon as possible! The board members are making a fuss."
Jane had to rush to the company, pushing open the door to the executive conference room, she saw Melanie sitting in the main seat.
"Jane, why are you here? Your dad was upset by you, and youre not going back to take care of him? Since ancient times, filial piety has been the foremost virtue, you cant act like this!" Melanie finished, and the shareholders glared at Jane as if they wanted to eat her.
Janes head buzzed, how did it become that she upset her father and caused his illness?
"Youre talking nonsense! My dad isnt..." Jane was about to explain when Melanie gave a signal to the secretary, who pulled Jane out.
"Let go of me, let me in, why are you framing me!" She never thought Melanie would deal with her like this.
Several security guards came forward and blocked Jane.
"Sorry, Miss, the acting chairman asked us to show you out!"
"Acting Chairman?"
The title was like a huge stone, heavily pressing on Janes heart. As soon as her father had an accident, was this woman about to seize the companys power?
She was forcibly taken outside, and Jane was so angry that she trembled all over, and the people around her pointed at her and gossiped.
"I heard that the young lady has a new lover and doesnt want to marry Jamie Fraser, which made Mr. Eyre so angry that he fell ill."
"How do you know she has a new lover?"
"Ms. Hamilton said she saw Jane Eyre get into another mans car, and when she came back, she was wearing a mans clothes."
"Tut, tut... How can there be such a woman, so indecent, shes engaged..."
Jane didnt expect Melanie to be so malicious, deliberately fabricating things to frame her!
At this moment, a black Ferrari quietly stopped in front of her, and the gray window glass went down.
"Miss Eyre, would you like a ride?"
