In this world, love is often bitter. Emily Parkers decade-long entanglement with Robert Grant crumbled the moment Sophia Thompson returned. Upon hearing the news, Emily sat on the Grant familys sofa, staring at the divorce agreement Robert handed her. The terms were clear and precise, giving her what was rightfully hers and nothing more, just like their three-year marriage.
"Sign it," he said, his voice as cold as ever, devoid of any warmth.
Tears welled up in Emilys eyes, but she held them back, her eyes red and determined as she looked at Robert, asking the question she already knew the answer to: "Why?"
Robert leaned against the sofa, his indifferent aura enveloping her as his chilling voice echoed in the spacious Grant living room, "Sophia is back."
The rest was left unsaid, but they both understood.
Sophia was back, and Emily had to make way for her.
Emily laughed bitterly to herself. This was the man she had secretly loved for seven years, married for three, and watched over for ten years!
In all these years, there was no place for her in his heart. The moment that person returned, he couldnt wait to drive her away!
What did she amount to?
Impatient for a response, Robert took out a pen and threw it on the table, "Emily, since youve read the agreement, just sign it and dont waste my time."
Emily lowered her eyes, suppressing the bitterness at the bottom of her heart, "Robert, is it that urgent?"
"Or what? Every day spent with you these past three years has been repulsive to me. I dont want to see you even a moment longer! So stop talking and sign it!" Roberts patience was wearing thin.
His words were like sharp blades, stabbing her heart over and over, causing Emily pain beyond words.
Was she that repulsive to him?
She shakily picked up the agreement, looking down at the bold black letters spelling out "Divorce Agreement," her heart aching.
A drop of water fell onto the paper, followed by another, blurring the neat black letters, just like her current mood.
Emily lowered her head, her expression hidden as she spoke with a choked tone and tears falling, "Robert, divorce me after Im dead!"
With that, she got up to leave.
Roberts anger surged, and he strode forward, grabbing Emilys wrist. The touch of her fragile wrist surprised him, but he quickly suppressed the inexplicable panic in his heart and roared, "Emily! What do you mean! Dare you threaten me with death?"
Emily turned her head, her eyes filled with pain, and said softly, "Robert, would you care if I died?"
Robert looked at Emilys pale face, realizing he hadnt looked at her closely in a long time. When had she become so thin and frail, as if a gust of wind could blow her away?
Probably, it was all an act!
This woman had always been good at acting!
He hardened his heart and mercilessly said, "No."
It was the answer Emily expected, but even knowing it, she still loved him devotedly!
And how could she bear to really threaten him?
She just didnt have much time left.
