“Maxwell Jr.!”
Sophias mind felt stung with pain, her eyes bloodshot as she lunged towards the group of thugs, trying to snatch her child back. But it was all in vain. She fell to the ground helplessly, watching as her son was stuffed into a van and driven away. Her mind felt hollow, clutching her knees as her eyes filled with a despair so profound it left her empty.
When would this ever end...
The car door opened in front of her, and a mans displeased voice whispered, "Get in."
Sophia gritted her teeth, wiped away her tears, and managed to steady her trembling legs as she climbed into the car. There was no resistance; his command was law, the only way she could see Maxwell Jr.
As the car moved forward, Sophia huddled in the corner, her head resting helplessly against the window. The man beside her, his lips slightly parted, let a thin stream of smoke slowly escape: "The doctor called me yesterday, said Maxwell Jr.s psychological state is not good, that a nurse isnt enough for him."
Sophia listened to his words, her heart wrenching as she clutched her clothes tightly. She couldnt bear to think how much her young son must miss her, what kind of pain he must be going through...
"Starting today, Emily will accompany him," Edward stated indifferently. At his casual words, Sophia was stunned.
Then, the next moment, she heard her own trembling voice: "Youre insane! Edward Hunter, I disagree! I am Maxwell Jr.s mother!"
"Getting anxious?" Edward smiled wickedly, capturing her jaw with one hand. "Sophia Thompson, why dont you seek help from the boys real father? Arent you the one who leans on him the most?"
"Youre just mad!"
Sophia abruptly slapped his hand away, furious beyond measure. But after calming down, she couldnt help but slow down, her shoulders still trembling incessantly.
After a long silence, she tried to calm herself down and said, "Edward Hunter, why?"
The mans figure was cold and unmoved. "Youre asking me why?"
He yanked her shoulder, roughly lifting her shirt, his cold fingers lightly gliding over the scar on her abdomen.
"I spoiled you, yet you bore a child for another man. Sophia Thompson, how dare you ask me why? Huh?"
Sophias body jolted, feeling his rough thumb move across her skin, she hastily pushed his shoulder away in a panic.
Edward stared at her thin, delicate cheeks, cupping her face, gritting his teeth: "Ill ask you just one question, who is the father of that child?"
This question, he had asked her countless nights, either tearing his heart out or with an indifferent calm, but she had never given him an answer. And this time was no different. Sophia gave a faint smile, her pale lips barely moving: "If I tell you, wont you kill him?"
Edwards eyebrows furrowed, his chest filled with frustration: "Do you think Im that brutal in your eyes?"
Sophia listened to his words, unintentionally curled her lips, and gave a thin, cold smile: "Arent you?"
Her words fell, Edward pursed his lips, gloomily staring at her, his deep, ravine-like gaze gradually becoming calm.
"Get out of the car."
Sophia closed her eyes, without hesitation, she opened the door and got out. As soon as her feet touched the ground, the car door slammed shut with a "bang", and the car sped away with a howl.
