A Lifetime of Gazing, Never Yearning

In the year 1934, at General Hospital.

"Madam, your condition requires immediate treatment abroad. The longer you delay, the more dangerous it becomes..." The doctors expression was grave.

Elizabeth Bennet nodded, speaking with some difficulty: "I understand, but please give me more medicine. Ill take it for a while longer."

"Master Cullen would be concerned if he knew about your health..." The doctor sighed.

Elizabeth quickly interjected: "Dont tell Edward Cullen. He has important military affairs to handle."

If he were to hear about her terminal illness, he would likely bring in a concubine with great fanfare the next moment, she thought bitterly, feeling a sense of suffocation in her heart.

Leaving the hospital, Elizabeth took a rickshaw and returned directly to the Cullen Mansion.

As night fell, the first snow of the year began to fall abruptly.

After taking her medicine, Elizabeth stared straight at the snowflakes outside the window.

Ever since she married Edward Cullen, the first snow of each year had fallen on her birthday.

But this year, Elizabeths heart for snow watching was desolate.

The door creaked open, and a heavy set of footsteps approached, bringing with them a biting cold wind.

Elizabeth couldnt help but shiver, but she stopped when she saw the pair of knee-high military boots.

"Edward, youre back..." A glimmer of light appeared in Elizabeths dull eyes.

"Happy birthday gift for this year." Edward Cullen placed the brocade box on the low table, his expression cold.

The light in Elizabeths eyes flickered slightly as she carefully opened the box.

Inside the box was a silk handkerchief embroidered with plum blossoms.

As Elizabeth was about to take out the handkerchief, she suddenly caught sight of a strand of a womans long hair wrapped in the corner of the handkerchief.

Was Edward Cullen using an item from his mistress hidden in another garden to perfunctory her?

"Master Cullen has a heart, this gift is very feminine."

Elizabeths face paled a bit, her fingers tightly clenching the quilt on her lap.

Edward Cullen frowned, knowing from years of interaction that Elizabeth was in a bad mood at the moment.

This woman only called him Master Cullen when she was angry.

"I wont send any next year, if you want anything in the future, you can draw money from the account room and buy it yourself."

Edward Cullen moved his thin lips, took off his military overcoat, and went into the inner room.

Next year, he wouldnt even have the heart to be perfunctory.

Elizabeth watched his back, murmuring in a barely audible voice: "Im afraid... I wont be able to make it to this time next year..."

She and Edward Cullen, after all, couldnt get through the seven-year itch.

As she was thinking, her chest began to ache faintly, and she could hardly catch her breath.

Elizabeth took out the red date handkerchief from her sleeve and blocked her nostrils while slightly tilting her head.

Such an action was done in one go.

In a short while, the warm smell of blood filled her nostrils, but there was no trace of blood on the red date handkerchief.

The doctor had said that the more frequently the blood flows, the more difficult the condition is to treat.

Elizabeth didnt want to go abroad; she couldnt bear to part with Edward Cullen.

She was afraid that if she left the city, the position of the masters wife in the Cullen Mansion would be replaced.

Although Edward Cullens heart was no longer with her, he hadnt forgotten that she was the wife he had brought back in a sedan chair when he was young.

Whats the point of living too long without his company?

After the blood in her nostrils stopped, Elizabeth went back to the inner room and lay down on the bed next to Edward Cullen, dressed.

As usual, she raised her arm and gently held his strong waist, burying her head in the back of his neck.

"Edward, you havent held me for a long time..." Elizabeths voice carried a hint of plea.

"Next time, Im tired." Edward Cullen moved her hand away and then slightly moved towards the edge of the bed.

The chill spread all over Elizabeth, and she looked at the back of his head, her eyes filled with a thin mist.

Every time its this sentence, how many next times can she wait for?

What she wanted was just his embrace...
